For all of Donald Trump's talk about the "fake news" media and supposedly socialist Democrats, his real focus since leaving office has been to cleanse the GOP of those establishment types who didn't fall into lockstep with him during his presidency.
"If we didn't have RINOs, the Republican Party would totally dominate politics," Trump said in a statement via his Save America PAC earlier this month. "The good news is there are far less than there were four years ago—it is a dying breed—but nevertheless, and unfortunately, they still exist!"
The latest example of Trump's attempted purge of the establishment came via reporting Sunday in the Wall Street Journal in regard to Trump's search for a challenger to knock Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell from his leadership job. As the WSJ's Michael Bender and Lindsay Wise reported:
"Mr. Trump has spoken recently with senators and allies about trying to depose Mr. McConnell and whether any Republicans are interested in mounting a challenge, according to people familiar with the conversations. There is little appetite among Senate Republicans for such a plan, lawmakers and aides said, but the discussions risk driving a wedge deeper between the most influential figure in the Republican Party and its highest-ranking member in elected office."
Trump has been vocal, for months, in opposition to McConnell.
"I have quietly said for years that Mitch McConnell is the most overrated man in politics—now I don't have to be quiet anymore," Trump said in a statement in early August.

Could it be because they LIKE the Republican Establishment ALSO being for Democrat agenda items??
Amnesty, Obamacare, Abortion, foreign wars, massive spending & debt, etc.
Remove the Republican Establishment and the Democrats will ACTUALLY be opposed.
And that’s a bad thing? Not to me.
And the problem with that is?
Works for me!
The Republican establishment are the Washington Generals of the political world. They know their role, know how to make the right talking points, but ultimately they know when to rollover and allow the left to keep advancing their agenda.
Yes, CNN has many misgivings about “killing off” the already shrinking GOPe.
CNN sure seems to think that anything other than a choice between Tweedledom and Tweedledee is a bad thing.
COOL.
May Trump be successful.
Yes. If Trump is successful, the Left’s favorite punching bag/door mat will be taken away beause it will stand up and hit back!
I, and all I have spoken with on this issue, will not financially support the GOP and its candidates.
If required in the general election, we will grudgingly vote for them to get the majority, but we will vote against these people in the primary.
Or, replace the RINO controlled opposition as it lost effectiveness?
Go Trump! Mitch McConnell is the worst.
Finally! Some “not fake news” from cnn
That’s why we sent him to DC. Get to it!
If there is a dubious point to be made to belittle Trump, Chris has got it covered, no matter how stupid and convoluted.
He's determined to continue CNN's Trump Derangement Syndrome, even without Trump in charge o anything.
RINO hunt wi no bag limit!
He pretty easily killed off both the Bush and Clinton factions from ever running again - so don’t doubt the Donald.
Trump had the CIA, FBI, the entire corrupt state media and the street organization and thugs of the Democrat Party / Leftists against him - but he’s still fighting.
Part of that was the “Russia collusion” hoax but it was also the political class not helping him get acquainted with the politics and working at odds with a duly elected president of their own party.
Chris Cillizza and “fake news”.
lol.
