Someone whose name I can’t recall has said that “Programmed does not equal Intelligence”.

AI has some very useful applications; but even to this point, it is NOT ‘intelligence’ - (and anyone who has dealt with a chat bot or even a phone tree knows that.)

Our own REAL intelligence is being progressively reduced to what a machine can handle or dictate (anyone with a teenaged or young adult child can see this plainly).

WE are being programmed to mimic the machine in our own thinking - and that’s what scares me.

A computer program that can simply do things very fast is not ‘intelligent’. It is programmed - by a human who possesses actual intelligence.

A robot with purported AI will still simply be a device built by brilliant engineers and programmers and sent trundling on it’s way...it’s actually the brilliance of the engineers that is sent out.

Just like the way the system that beat the chess champions was a machine programmed by brilliant guys who knew chess...the game was actually played against these programmers who used the computer as a tool...

And self-programming machines are still just the same... the engineers programmed it to gather data and make selections based on their brilliant ideas...

The idea of a universal programmed machine is the result of work by a brilliant man named Alan Turing... he wrote a seminal paper that changed mankind’s destiny.

This tool could very well lead eventually to an unbelievable extension of human life.

I fear we may not be ready for such power....

Quite true !
Any casual observation of humans which are addicted to their cellphones (computerized verbal/visual communications) gives conclusive evidence
that our thinking processes have become mechanical, inconvenient, and AI dependent.
