PolitiFact Abruptly Breaks With the Preferred COVID-19 Narrative and Actually Agrees with Florida Governor DeSantis

In a shocking turn of events, PolitiFact rated something a Republican said “Mostly True.” Not just any Republican, either. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said something about recovered immunity from COVID-19 that PoilitFact did not completely debunk. There is a highly coordinated narrative on COVID-19 in the corporate media, and most outlets will only parrot what Dr. Anthony Fauci says. PolitiFact just broke the mold!

PolitiFact gave this statement a “mostly true” rating. In its bulleted response, the fact-checker said:

To fact check PolitiFact, the Israeli study actually says (emphasis added), “Individuals who were previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 seem to gain additional protection from a subsequent single-dose vaccine regimen. Though this finding corresponds to previous reports, we could not demonstrate significance in our cohort.” For context, 23 recovered patients and 16 recovered participants with a single dose developed symptomatic COVID-19 out of 14,029 total. Taken together, the risk of reinfection is 0.27%. A study at Cleveland Clinic found no difference in the infection rate between the recovered and the recovered who subsequently received the vaccine.

On the third bullet point, some doctors indeed say that. Other doctors are not so sure, especially for younger Americans. The United Kingdom vaccine advisory board does not recommend broad-based vaccination for children 12-15, saying the “margin of benefit was not clear.”

DeSantis has been clear that he does not think vaccines should be a requirement to participate in everyday activities. He was the first governor to prohibit vaccine mandates for public employees and private businesses. The Florida legislature then passed SB-2006, prohibiting vaccine passports of any kind. The Florida Department of Health recently issued a rule based on the law that includes a $5,000 fine for violations.

Since Biden’s announcement, DeSantis has been particularly critical of a mandate interfering with someone’s ability to make a living. Gainesville city officials decided to implement a vaccine mandate for its employees anyway. That is why the governor made a case for natural immunity in his speech there. DeSantis is especially concerned about emergency services and frontline workers, many of whom worked through the pandemic and have already recovered from COVID-19. His concerns are spot on.

A few years ago of all the fake checkers Politifact was the only one who had the intellectual honesty to give the “hands up don’t shoot” narrative their highest pants on fire rating.

The important thing is not what another sycophant lying website says, but rather that they have broken with the party line. It means there are some lies with such enormity that even Pinocchio won't tell it.

Did not completely TRY to debunk - the word "debunk" means to expose as untrue, and I doubt PolitiFact has ever done that with anything DeSantis has ever said. Writing quality is down across the board - both on the Left and the Right.

They say mostly true but notice how they don’t say entirely true, which it is. They think there are degrees of truth. They won’t say anything definite about COVID because as soon as anything about COVID becomes “settled science” we will be able to argue them out of masks lockdowns and vaccine mandates. Up until now everything about COVID is may, might, could based on whatever if they want to get people worried about. As soon as they say masks work, we can argue the fact. As long as they don’t know, they can always say maybe to our maybe not. It’s like a philosophical argument about the existence of God. We don’t know.

Debunk means conclusivelydemonstrated to be false. Politifact is not capable of debunking anything without some facts to use as evidence. There are no facts about COVID. For every study that proves X, there is a study that disproves X. Ever since the beginnings of COVID, there is only speculation and obfuscation. Did it come from China? Maybe or maybe not. Did it come from a lab? Maybe and maybe not. Did they release it intentionally? Maybe and maybe not. Will it kill me? Maybe and maybe not. Is there anything I can do if I get it? Maybe and maybe not. Do masks help? Maybe and maybe not. I have yet to see any single fact about COVID that is agreed upon by everyone, except maybe the fact that it is most likely a virus.

I think this is the "fact" that everyone needs to see; the current mortality rate is lower than it has been since the start of the "pandemic" and is now on par with the flu across ALL age groups... so why do we need federally mandated vaccines?

Ok thanks. I was looking at the graph on my phone with a small screen and missed the right panel of the graph.

This graph makes no sense to me. Current overall death rates are about half what they were earlier this year. Should be similar in this chart. What is “Incident Deaths”? Is that some kind of annualized number?

OK... I think I get it now:

Incident cases are all individuals who
change in status from non-disease to
disease – or from one state of a
health outcome to another – over a
specific period of time. In other words,
“incidence” refers to the occurrence
of new cases”

So, if I understand this correctly, this chart shows the number of people that GET Covid, and DIE within 1 week. So, really...this chart is just showing how much we’ve improved in treatment. There are still a LOT of people dying from covid each week.

The 7 day average right now is nearly half what it was earlier this year.

Comparing current death count, not rate, to other periods of time of this year or last year does not make all that much sense because the current virus in the United States is not the same as earlier this year or last year. So just put that concept aside.

We are seeing about 900 US deaths per day from covid right now. About 4 weeks ago Goldman Sachs announced that their analysts had constructed a model that projected a peak in US covid deaths would occur about 2 weeks ago. The daily death count is still rising and the GS model needs more work.

Excess deaths (all causes) turned sharply upwards about 2 weeks ago, and ED’s reflect conditions three weeks earlier because it takes that long for death data to tabulate. This indicates that the current Delta upturn in killing began a little over a month ago and that corresponds with the covid graphs.

The folks who want to aggressively embrace the concept of recovered natural immunity pretty much just desperately don’t want to be vaxxed. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s useful to understand the core motivation.

The original strain of the virus was artificial. The Chinese created it. It is not natural. Recovered natural immunity and immunity derived from vax both presume that an infection is natural. Vax technology was designed to combat natural infections of various different kind of viruses. But this virus is not natural and it is dangerous to presume that we have any defense against it, natural or vax. There is no law of the universe that says this virus can be stopped.

It’s not only dangerous but foolish to think that policies inside the US to counter the virus have any value. Whether there is a stream of the illegals coming in or not the virus will find its way in from outside no matter what you do inside.

The point of all of this is not knee jerk pessimism. It is to encourage of throttling down of passion about any position at all. It is likely there is no defense and policy does not warrant passion in any direction.
