My reading of history led me to an appreciation of the "great person" versus the "great events" debate. It's a causality dilemma. For me, events make leaders. Trump was elected due to a growing dissatisfaction with circumstances adversely affecting personal freedom, finances etc. But U.S. culture continues to deteriorate, and thus the pool of conservative human resources available to the Trump administration was limited.
Whether it's eliminating debt, securing borders, limiting election fraud or cleansing the education system etc., effective leaders and their teams will emerge only after the average American feels events tightening the vice to a painful enough degree. IMO, Trump did his best.
And I say this as a solid "C" history major.
