Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell is pouring cold water on new reporting from Bob Woodward, detailed in the Washington Post Tuesday, that General Mark Milley vowed to give China a heads up if President Donald Trump ordered an attack.
He's also dismissing calls from Alexander Vindman, the "whistleblower" behind Trump's first impeachment over a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for Milley to resign.
From the Washington Post's reporting on Woodward's book:
In the book’s account, Milley went so far as to pledge he would alert his counterpart in the event of a U.S. attack, stressing the rapport they’d established through a backchannel. “General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years. If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”
Believing that China could lash out if it felt at risk from an unpredictable and vengeful American president, Milley took action. The same day, he called the admiral overseeing the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, the military unit responsible for Asia and the Pacific region, and recommended postponing the military exercises, according to the book. The admiral complied.
Milley also summoned senior officers to review the procedures for launching nuclear weapons, saying the president alone could give the order — but, crucially, that he, Milley, also had to be involved. Looking each in the eye, Milley asked the officers to affirm that they had understood, the authors write, in what he considered an “oath.”
In the first place, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is NOT in the chain of command for authorization of a nuclear strike. He is in the information loop at his security clearance level. Joint Chiefs are advisors to the CIC, the President.
Precisely— and this fact, alone OUTS Woodward’s made up BS story as one more fake a@@ book he wants to sell. He gets all this shite from his pals still in the company.

None of us know if this is true and correct. However, it is very believable in the strange times we inhabit. We know the phone call from Pelosi happened as it was well-reported.
I would think if this really happened that there would have been some leaks prior to this?
Lest we forget, this “story” was the constant narrative of the leftist media elite in DC..... “Trump was unstable”, “Trump was unhinged”, and “Trump would get us in WWIII.”
I agree, but there are a bunch of people implicated here, idientifiable people, who need to state under oath what the truth is.
I don’t know if this is true or not but the sad part is that Milley’s statements and actions over the last ten months or so make this entirely believable.
I want to know what Trump says about this. Hope he speaks to it soon. I want to know what he knows and thinks.
I have said about Grenell; one the best civil servants we had. He was competent, transparent, and worked for the American taxpayer.
