At least 12,000 Americans have already died from COVID-19 this month, as the country inches through its latest surge in cases. But another worrying statistic is often cited to depict the dangers of this moment: The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the United States right now is as high as it has been since the beginning of February. It’s even worse in certain places: Some states, including Arkansas and Oregon, recently saw their COVID hospitalizations rise to higher levels than at any prior stage of the pandemic. But how much do those latter figures really tell us?

Our Hospital has 33 patients for the coronavirus, with three COVID patients in the ICU. Population of our city about 13,500.
Yes that’s it. The guy is always preaching doomsday scenarios but often has good reports.
That’s why I call him Dr. Fraudski
Hopefully all will recover. More than 99 percent do.
The Big lie is called the Big lie for a reason.
Did I miss the link to the study in the article? Or is it not there?
“Those patients who are there with rather than from COVID don’t belong in the metric.”
One can’t discount those ‘with’ because they need the same infection control level as those ‘of’. Can’t mix patients. Just as one can’t discount those who are infected post- admission.
The only percentage to go on in this article is the 57% ‘mild’. If 25% of admissions are to ICU, that leaves about 18% as ‘serious not life support’. That’s not good. OTOH, we’re talking men here.
The authors do note that reinfected previously infected are making up a portion of the population but no percentage is given. That seems an important metric to include.
The recall was not because the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was inaccurate. It was because they have a different test that can check for both influenza and COVID-19 simultaneously – which is known as the "multiplexed method."
A single slot pcr test can only test for one pathogen per sample swab. A multiplex test can test for as many pathogens per swab as it's programmed for. I've seen one company that has a multiplex test for 16 known respiratory pathogens.
How many swabs do you want shoved up your nose?
You don’t recall a product because it “safe and effective” but a new test kit is available. If the existing product is such a paragon of all the virtues as the CDC claims, you use it up and re-supply with the new kits.
They are lying to you, again.
Are you really this panic stricken over Covid that you have lost even the most basic reasoning skills?
No, they are going to stop providing the free government test. Another sign the pandemic is actually over except for the propaganda.
Got it, your fear and panic trump my real world professional experience.
Sorry but NO.
Pull your head out.
Your source does not support your claim. It would also be stupid for the CDC to continue to provide their first test gratis forever. It’s eating the hell out of their budget.
Commercial Laboratory providers have long since added Sars Cov 2 to their multi-plex panels and they are commercially available in adequate supple.
Stop seeing shibboleths where there are none.
Add to that they hysteria and hypochondria created by nonstop media hyperbole and people with the common cold are running to the hospital in fear of dying.
