By March 1 nearly all of the deaths in the UK had already occurred. There have been very few deaths since then.

On March 1, 1.2% of UK were fully vaccinated.

Also, in August 20% of the deaths were fully vaccinated. If you just count vaccinated it was 80%. If you notice the article counted from january, when the vacine just became available. At that time everyone was not vaccinated.

The figures show a total of 51,281 deaths involving Covid-19 in England between 2 January and 2 July, of which 38,964 were of unvaccinated people.

This works out to 24% of these deaths being among the "vaccinated".

Sometimes two things can both be true.

For the population of health workers, which probably includes very few people in their 70s, 80s, or 90s, the first dose may be 80% effective.

The same may not be true for the entire population eligible for the vaccine; that is, everyone older than 12.
