(The Center Square) – Former football players becoming politicians isn’t new.
Plenty of ex-football players have been elected to Congress or state legislatures, and former NFL running back Herschel Walker is working on a U.S. Senate run in Georgia.
But having a retired NFL player run for a local school board, such as former Bears and Vanderbilt University quarterback Jay Cutler tweeted Thursday he planned to do, is far less common.
Cutler tweeted a photo of the Williamson County school board website, saying, “Doing school board research. Looks like a 2024 campaign for me.”
He then tweeted, “August of 2024. I need 100 signatures and a petition from the county. Going to start getting John Hancocks today.”
When asked about his platform, Cutler responded, “common sense.”…

One of the most overpaid players in football history. Pass.
Yep. As a Bronco fan (well, at least back before they became part of the “woke” NFL), I’ve never forgotten how Cutler would throw yet another stupid, game-changing interception and then just casually walk off the field acting like he didn’t care. He never seemed to take seriously how devastating his stupid screw-ups were, and as a result he never improved.
Kristin Cavaleri divorced this clown because he was “unmotivated and lazy”. Just like he was an overpaid, lazy QB, he’ll do the same on the school board. Nothing easier to do a “job” than sitting on your ass like a school board commie.
But I couldn't disagree with you more about his wife.
Cutler may have been awful, but he played football for what, 31 years of his life. He worked all those years, I applaud the fact that he would take a year off and spend time with his children. Good for him. Some celebrities never want to spend time with their children. His wife is a money-grubbing, superficial jerk. She'll never be happy a day in her life.
Butt.
+1
Who’s more overpaid Cutler or Heath Shuler?
Entry level politician...gotta start somewhere!
He’s doing this to oppose mask mandates and he was fired as an uber eats pitchman because of it. So it IS awesome, a lot more awesome than his performance as a QB. LOL (actually not lol, I’m a Bears fan).
This is much more important than a ball game. Politically he seems to be a good dude and people like his personality since he retired.
It's not even close. Shuler was only in the NFL 5 years, and I don't believe he ever hot a huge contract.
Cutler was in the NFL 11 or 12 years and got 2,3, or 4 big contracts. He's in the top 15 highest paid QBs of all time, with over $100 million. He's not even in the top 250 QBs of all time.
The denizens of FreeRepublic.com have been telling us that we must take our country back from the ground up. Starting with school boards, dog catcher, and whatnot. Here's a guy that is legit, and we're gonna dump him for being a 'lazy' and sucky quarterback?
Like as if somebody else that took that seat would be frikken George Washington. There is a certain element of Freeper that will never be pleased unless they're bitchin' about SOMETHING.
I say to them, get on board MAGA.
Go, Cutler go.

LOL, back when Vanderbilt actually won a few games.
I’m all for anybody who wants to get those muzzles off of little kids.
Honestly, I think that Jay Cutler is a good guy. Yeah, I didn’t like him lining up against the Packers, but that was in a different time before we saw the NFL go Full Stupid. I would support him in this bid to serve his community. Why not?
I hope he’s a better schoolboardsman than QB LOL...
Good for him though. We need some character in offices through out this country.
