Ramsey County Attorney John Choi is announcing "a new county-wide policy aimed at fundamentally changing the use of non-public safety traffic stops by police."
Choi and other leaders, including St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, held a press conference to provide more details about the new policy.
...
A Tuesday morning press release from Choi's office states that non-public safety stops generally happen when a driver is stopped for an equipment violation "to seek evidence of a more serious crime." Choi said the Ramsey County Attorney's Office is ending felony prosecution resulting from these stops.
"These types of stops disproportionally affect Black and brown communities and undermine the trust in the work police do every day to serve and protect the public," the press release states.
Choi said local law enforcement, philanthropic leaders, county residents and national partners like the Vera Institute of Justice worked together to develop the new policy.

Why do I have the feeling the rank-and-file, or what's left of them, had no input in this policy.
Welcome to pre-Giuliani NYC MPLS/St. Paul, you deserve it.
How many serial killers escaping prosecution will it take?
Another reason not to visit there.
This is going to get cops killed. That is probably the intent.
Unless of course, you have a Trump sticker on your car. Then you’ll be stopped, searched and if they find your gun, charged with a list of crimes.
“These types of stops disproportionally affect criminals with poorly maintained cars...”
That is the PRECISE reason I don’t have a Trump sticker on any of my cars.
That, and the fact that LIEberals WILL key your Trump car!
Exactly. You used to hear of wanted felons, large drug busts, etc. as a result of a simple traffic stop. Now they will go free, to cause further issues in the community, which the elected idiots will blame on the police.
I think what will happen is the smart officers will just stop doing traffic stops. Not worth your job if some criminal tries to fight over a traffic violation. Just sit back and wait for the call when they get in a wreck and write up a report.
Proactive policing is dead in these areas.
Message to the cops: Don’t make any traffic stops, make the announcement that drivers are on their own. Stand back and watch the mayhem and then insurance rates skyrocket.
The best way to cut black and brown crime is to ignore their crimes. That seems to be the on going philosophy now.
Minneapolis - a paradise for fools.
Cop: “Sir, is that blood draining from your trunk onto the ground?”
Driver: “Yes, officer, it is. It’s coming from the girl I just raped and killed and put in the trunk. I was driving into the forest to bury her.”
Cop: “Well, get that broken taillight lense fixed when you’re finished. You’ll save yourself the trouble of getting pulled over again.”
Driver: “Will do, officer.”
Cop: “Have a nice day.”
Driver: “You too.”
i'm old enough to remember when cry was always women and children hit hardest... they've been displaced
also of note, the "b" in brown is NOT capitalized... THAT'S RACIST!!!
“Soooo...if a St. Paul officer stops a vehicle for a expired reg, broken tail light, etc. and finds a illegal guns, drugs, the DA won’t prosecute.”
May have one better than that. A cop pulls over a driver for a tail light out and finds a 15 year old girl in the back seat, naked, beat up, and buzzed, and then the per can just dump her out on the street and drive off with his ticket? If he keeps her, another cop a block down the street pulls him for suspicion of rape and kidnapping.
Once she’s on the ground, he isn’t responsible for her unless they are going to write him for littering. At some point, the cops are going to carry more throw downs.

# Anarcho-tyranny: the dehumanizing state of affairs whereby the state refuses to stop violent crime, yet will vigorously enforces even the most unjust and petty laws against ordinary people
It is safe for them to beat money out of your average ordinary citizen.
