'Um, get a job': Ted Cruz's response to article claiming jobless Americans have 'few options' after seven million lost their benefits

Texas Senator Ted Cruz shared an article on Twitter Monday night that questioned the path forward for millions of Americans who lost unemployment benefits

Texas Republican Senator told more than 7 million Americans whose federal COVID unemployment benefits expired on Monday to 'get a job' that night, predictably provoking outraged responses from across the internet.

The conservative lawmaker shared an Associated Press article on the unemployment stipend drying up on Twitter late Monday night.

It was headlined 'Jobless Americans have few options as benefits expire.'

'Um, get a job?' Cruz wrote in an apparent answer to the outlet. 'There are millions of vacancies, and small businesses across the Nation are desperate for workers.'

People on the social media site lashed out within hours.

'I wish someone would take yours,' wrote Daily Beast editor-at-large Molly Jong-Fast.

people nowadays don’t even have to get off their butts to look for jobs

there are jobs all over town, employers are almost begging for people to agree to work

they are all at home scarfing up the federal, state, and local welfare checks, also all the free food, free rent, etc

economists say this can’t go on forever, not even very long at all. But it sure seems like it is...

Everywhere I go, almost every establishment I see, has help wanted signs up with some offering pretty nice pay rates.

He is absolutely, unequivocally, correct.

Typical deadbeat loser liberal outrage that anyone should expect them to not be a deadbeat liberal loser.

Work is hard.
You have to set the alarm clock so you wake up before 10 am.

Progressives are just an organized crime racket.

You can see it in the government. They want power and don't care who they hurt as they construct a world that revolves around them and protects their influence.

But you can see it in the "foot soldiers" too.

Work is for suckers! Why should I work?? Tell you what -- why don't you work, and I'll, you know, I'll just skim some off the top, and put it in my pocket, and everyone will be happy, right? I mean, we could try to go a different way if you like, but take a look at Portland and a few other fine cities. You got a nice little life going for yourself, don't you? It would be a shame if something were to happen to it, so just gimme the cash.

Is it their fault that they were making more money sitting on their butt than going to a job? Is it their fault that they chose short term comfort over experience? Should they really have to go find a job when they don’t have any employment history for the last 18 months?

Reminds me of when Lee Iococca just won huge concessions from the UAW and some stupid reporter asked:

Reporter: “You just won huge concessions from the UAW, but what does the poor auto worker get?”

Iococca, turning slowly to the reporter: “A job, you idiot!”

Kinda sounds like something Trump would say...I like it!

Of course I won’t hire anyone who was able to work but chose to sit on their butt for the last 18 months.

Once you pay people more to sit on the couch, it’s an uphill battle to get them to move again.

The demons know this already and now the anger of those 7 million will be used by said demons to further their push into communism.

Absolutely, these are going to be the least reliable and most whiny employees.

Hyphenated last name. Clue #0 that this person is a snowflake idiot.

Around here, if you’re out of work it is because you choose to be, not because you can’t find a job. One of my kids is working double shifts, making money hand over fist as the saying goes. A few weeks ago I took up a second (part time) job just to make some “mad money” for camping or other adventures - already funded a new bushcraft knife (though I probably didn’t need another one) and a new flashlight (I really didn’t need but new tech, new cool...).

For those who don't know, "editor-at-large" means you aren't worth enough for your own office, but your mom's a friend of ours.

“Everywhere I go, almost every establishment I see, has help wanted signs up with some offering pretty nice pay rates.”

Ditto. Some have gone so far as to paint “help wanted” on their windows, and others posting big banners in front of their stores with the same. I’m in a blue state and I’m curious to know what it’s like in red states that had the courage to stop taking the $300 payoffs the feds are giving.

Cruz shot himself in the foot again with an unnecessary snarky response. He could have been positive and diplomatic.

'American workers are ready, willing, and able to return to work and they will overcome every obstacle and rise to the challenge.'

See, supportive, hopeful, and encouraging. Instead, he gives him opposition a new campaign ad to use against him.
