He has a point. Right now the odds do not favor the law surviving not just the appeals process, but efforts by the Democrats in congress to derail it. They still have until November of 2022 to sneak through some poison pill, likely with the usual Republican scoundrels, in a midnight “must pass” appropriations bill.
I don't remember Trump saying anything like that.
Some pro-lifers certainly believe abortion is an act of murder and women should receive the same punishment as a murderer.
That’s why he appointed three anti abortion supremes.
If Trump did say that he thinks the law is temporary then that means he either expects the courts to strike it down or that the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade.
“This stupid law will set the pro-life movement back decades, IMO.”
And there will peace in our time.
You appear to care far too much about what the left thinks of you (or us). They are never going to like you or care about you. You will never appease them. Don’t try and don’t worry about offending them.
Cruz will never be POTUS. I know it breaks your heart.
Courts may well overturn the law but Congress can't overrule it.
President Trump tried to reduce the numbers of abortions in
the U. S. during his presidency.
While I want the Texas law to stand, I also want to see Trump
have a fighting chance in 2024.
The timing of this before Trump’s next run, is important.
It could cost him a lot of votes. I have no doubt he will
be an anti-abortion president. He’s pretty effective in
getting his plans implemented.
If he defers now it’s meaningless to me.
It doesn’t make it harder for Texas. It doesn’t make it
easier for Texas’ enemies.
the world going to hell in a handbasket because of biden, and the DM says “Oh look, a squirrel!”
This is just a very bad law that purports to protect the most vulnerable among us. At the end of the day it is an attempt to build a civilian Stasi. Hard cases make for bad law.
After 2016, you’ve got that right.
The only thing he needs to say is that is the way a Republic works, each state deals with those issues that are not FEDERAL ones. And yes you are going to to get a hodge podge of different laws but that is the way it is.
And yet he has been the most pro-life president in my 70 yrs on earth.
President Trump should — at a minimum — support it as a State issue, not a federal issue.
And on this Trump is right. Once this hits the USSC it will be overturned.
I think all the drama --- on both sides --- is premature. All the SC had done is refuse the request for an emergency block of the law.
The law itself has not worked its way through the courts.
Relax. Trump is not commenting on the issue...but on a law that has yet to work its way to the USSC.
Saying "no" to an emergency injunction is NOT the same as the USSC confirming the constitutionality of the law --- which, like it or not, is dubious at best.
This bill is terrible. It is great in that it tries to ban abortion, but the way they try to avoid constitutional scrutiny by putting enforcement in the hands of private citizens is dangerous. Imagine if some state could make a law that bans all guns, and the law escapes constitutional scrutiny because enforcement is private? This could be a huge can of worms. I’d rather SCOTUS outright overturned RvW instead of crazy crap like this.
Being an “ever trumper” does not require thinking he is a rock solid conservative, because for one thing that kind of person cannot win the presidency.
Trump was a public figure. As a public figure he glad handed
almost everyone. He had Bill and Hillary Clinton to his
wedding with Melania. Do you think he likes Hillary or Bill?
It was a status issue. It was four years after Clinton was
president, and he was the last sitting president before Bush.
Trump did many good things for our nation, which you
conveniently left out.
You also left out that his businesses ere centered in New
York, and it would have prejudiced politicians against his
businesses to stiff them.
When you have 25,000 employees working for you, it’s not
just your own wealth being on the line.
