'Betrayed by Biden... but I fight on in the valley that's my nation's last hope': Afghanistan's vice-president Amrullah Saleh gives a brave despatch while under siege from the Taliban in his snow-capped mountain stronghold
Daily Mail ^ | 4 September 2021 | Amrullah Saleh In The Panjshir Valley, Afghanistan

Amrullah Saleh, 48, is the former vice president of Afghanistan, who escaped Kabul as the Taliban advanced to join Ahmad Massoud and the National Resistance Front in the Panjshir Valley.

The remote, 70 mile long valley, bordered by high mountains, is a geographical stronghold and the last province in Afghanistan to hold out against the Taliban. After peace negotiations failed, battle has now been joined with each side claiming territorial gains and heavy casualties in the past 48 hours.

In a courageous and moving dispatch from the frontline, Saleh - whose leader, President Ashraf Ghani, fled Kabul for the UAE - reveals his anger at Afghanistan's betrayal by America but urges the West not to abandon his beloved nation.

Sorry pal. If Biden stabbed you in the back, what the hell did your military do to you? Didn’t even put up a fight.

The Afghan military chose not to play the chump. When Biden ditched Bagram and denied them maintenance support for their equipment, it was pretty clear which way the wind was blowing.

We propped up Afghanistan for twenty years.
= = =

Look back 20 years.

McCain . . . and vacuous Pubs. Forked tongue conservative . . .

We propped up the Pubs longer than that.

When we invaded in 2001, we armed the Norther Alliance with captured Russian weapons. AK-47 etc.
They are simpler to use and everybody in Afghanistan was familiar with them.

All of them???? They were doing it for the money. $1 trillion for a bunch of worthless military. Hope they enjoy watching their families getting their heads lopped off. Price of cowardice

You’re so angry and incoherent I can’t tell what your point is.

Have a nice evening.

... Like I said. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. If your “ally” is Joe Biden... You’re screwed.

Clinton was probably persuaded to support Hekmatyar by Pakistan.

Saleh is offering sanctuary to any Americans who can get to the Panshir valley.

The Panjshir Valley has always been the key to Afghanistan.

Really? You are that dull. Let me help you with some of our history. George Washington fought without pay for weeks from lack of financing fromthe Contenental Congress, decent equipment, half he troops frozen to death at Valley Forge and under his leadership lost most of the battles they were in.
These Afghanistan idiots fought because they were being paid to play army. Now they and their families will all be hunted down and beheaded. Have a nice day.

I know we say the Afghan army failed miserably. But there was a reason. I believe it was in April when the US pulled all support. The troops were supposed to now be paid by the Afghan government and, that was hit and miss, mostly miss. The US pulled all air support, US trainers were pulled, and more. By August morale was in the pits. When the Taliban approached each province they asked to meet with the Afghan military commander and offered them a big pay off to surrender the province. That they did and left the troops leaderless.

I derived the above from bits and pieces I read, mostly in foreign publications.
