Dear Lyft Riders and Drivers,
A new Texas law, SB8, threatens to punish drivers for getting people where they need to go — specifically, women exercising their right to choose and to access the healthcare they need.
We want to be clear: Drivers are never responsible for monitoring where their riders go or why. Imagine being a driver and not knowing if you are breaking the law by giving someone a ride. Similarly, riders never have to justify, or even share, where they are going and why. Imagine being a pregnant woman trying to get to a healthcare appointment and not knowing if your driver will cancel on you for fear of breaking a law. Both are completely unacceptable.
This law is incompatible with people's basic rights to privacy, our community guidelines, the spirit of rideshare, and our values as a company. We are taking action on two fronts: Lyft has created a Driver Legal Defense Fund to cover 100% of legal fees for drivers sued under SB8 while driving on our platform. Riders and Drivers: Nothing about how you drive, ride or interact with each other should change. Texas SB8 is an attack on women's right to choose. Lyft is donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood to help ensure that transportation is never a barrier to healthcare access. If you feel compelled to join us as an individual, you can make a donation here. Logan and John, Lyft Co-founders Kristin Sverchek, Lyft General Counsel

Sorry for the double-up.
Supporting murder...how uplyfting.
I'll walk.
Gotta agree with Lyft here on the driver’s responsibility. What if someone took a Lyft to a bank and robbed it? Is the driver an accessory if he didn’t know about the robbery? I would expect that clinics that do abortion also do other things too. Does the driver know what procedure is being done? I don’t think many of these clinics have a sign up that says something like abortions are us.
This is the issue that the left is going to use to drive the mid-terms.
So a lyft driver has no idea where the ride is going before they are picked up? Also, what if a rider is going to a Trump rally? Are you telling me that left won't care?
If Black Lives really did Matter, Margaret Sanger would never have opened her doors
Abortion may be many things but it’s certainly not health care.
Didn’t Lyft during the presidential campaign refuse to pick up Trump supporters, or was that Uber?
Good luck. People who vote based on abortion rights ahead of economic incompetence, foreign policy failures, extreme leftism and the Bidinflation ain’t voting Republican anyway.
I don’t need a Lyft. I got wheels.

What’s wrong with you? Have you never heard of public transportation? It’s like Fauxi said, freedom is slavery, or something to that effect.
I BE...LIEEEEEVE. I BE...LIEEEEEVE!
This law is incompatible with people’s basic rights to privacy,

Really ??? Well try being private about your shot or not record...
I do hope youre up in arms about Joe Jab passports too...
Otherwise this is just so disingenuous ...
No, drivers do not know the destination ahead of time.
And Lyft is also planning to donate $1 million to PP, ugh.
No one is going to civilly sue a ride-share driver for taking someone from point A to point B. Why? Because their lawyer will tell them they cannot win the case in front of a jury with half a brain. This is more fear porn looking for a small entry to kill SB8.
When you order a ride, the Uber app has you put in your location and destination, all geographic information. The Uber driver does not know what you are going to do at that destination, nor does he care. All he cares about is that you be polite and give him a five-star review. Does Lyft not do that also?
This has been done. Some geniuses used a ride sharing company, I can’t remember which one, as a getaway car for a bank robbery. There was not any repercussions for the driver.
The Lyft people are constructing a straw man argument to justify their decision to kill unborn babies whilst trying to virtue signal to other losers like themselves.
This is Lyft’s attempt to make a claim that does not exist in a liberal attempt to support abortion. NOTHING in Texas SB8 allows for holding a Lyft driver accountable.
Uberand Lyft know the destinations, but they do not share that information with the drivers.
They do not want drivers turning down rides because of the destinations.
