The Taliban don’t “need” us, our investment, or our moral stance on how their treat their people.
China does not care about any of that stuff.
They always were, pre911 and all. Funny how these State Department Muslims always side with Chicom and against the US... Regardless the Uyghur...
Graveyard of empires. My guess is that the Chinese, like everyone else, thinks of these guys as a bunch of seventh-century goatherders who can be pushed around by the superior intellect and masterful strategic planning of the new mandarins.
Just like the Americans thought we would raise the flag of victory due to our technological prowess.
Or the Soviets thought they would move the Afghans into the next stage of historical development.
Or the British thought they would incorporate the Afghans into their worldwide market.
And so forth. If I remember correctly, though, the Mongols were successful because they killed huge numbers of people.
I wish the Chinese interesting times as they attempt to discover which of their allies organized the roadside bombs, stealth knifings in the dark, occasional accidents with complex machinery, and overall sullen attitudes.
The belt and road deal is a scam. They will get ripped off like every other poor country. China will own them.
