Japan seeks record military spending in 2022 to counter Chinese influence

Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The Japanese government on Tuesday proposed a record level of defense spending for next year -- almost $50 billion -- to counter rising influence and aggression from China in the region.

Japan's Ministry of Defense is requesting 5.48 trillion yen -- equivalent to $49.86 billion -- starting in April, a 2.6% increase over its 2021 amount.

If approved by the finance ministry and Japanese lawmakers later this year, the level for 2022 would be an all-time high and the steepest increase in a decade.

Some of the items included in the budget request include a dozen U.S. made F-35 fighters and funding to develop Japan's first new domestic fighter jet in three decades. The aircraft is expected to be completed in the 2030s and cost about $40 billion.

Japan's military also intends to spend some of the money on compact warships and longer-range missiles, and hopes to increase its arsenal of space-related forces.

The great irony is that by destabilizing the American hegemony, Biden has loosed the dogs of nationalism and disrupted the sleepwalk toward globalism that his masters desire.

Now there will be multiple power centers and a return to the days of multiple shifting alliances. The chance of regional war has increased dramatically, with the potential for a nuclear event rising.

The globalist einsteins will find to their dismay that once again a sovereign theory of global order is foundering on the rocks of human nature.

I know they've already thought of it, but I would suggest a mutual defense treaty with Taiwan. Japan must know they are targets for Chinese takeover, after Taiwan and South Korea.
Right now USA is shaky, weak, and might not honor its promises to Taiwan.
If Japan, Taiwan and Korea stand together, China might blink.

I’m not so sure about your “multiple power centers”. When you have a power vacuum, the strongest players usually step in to fill the void. Most of the global influence abandoned by Biden will be quickly assumed by the CCP. No Asian regional alliance could possibly stand up to China. Japan and South Korea will now need their own Force de frappe to deter Chinese aggression. The most destabilizing result of the new American regime will be nuclear proliferation with eventual regional nuclear conflicts.

2.7% increase is better than nothing, but WAY SHORT of what’s needed if Japan wants to be serious about their defense in that neighborhood. Try DOUBLING their spending, and doing it twice, and they’ll start approaching what is needed.

Shinzo Abe (former prime minister) proposed restoring the Emperor as head of state a few years ago, but parliament didn't act.

Would be nice to see the Imperial Chrysanthemum back on IJN ships. Would make the Chicoms' arses pucker.

Japan, Taiwan and Korea need to acquire nuclear weapons if they haven’t already. If China invades, nuke ‘em.

The Europeans will have to get their act together because the Russians will start to make noise in their backyard. The Japanese will have to challenge the Chinese in the Pacific.
