I tend to agree. I know that there are stories of botched hangings where they made the rope too long and instead of breaking the guy's neck, it ended up decapitating the guy (in at least one case, the gal). I'm thinking that with the distance this guy fell, the same thing would happen if he was being hung by the neck.

I'm sure, as someone else mentioned, the Taliban have easier ways of torturing people, but maybe in this instance they just did it because they could.
