The Bizarre Refusal to Apply Cost-Benefit Analysis to COVID Debates
Outside Voices ^ | August 25, 2021 | Glenn Greenwald

Posted on 08/31/2021 3:43:55 AM PDT by BurgessKoch

Are those who oppose a ban on cars or a radical reduction in speed limits sociopaths, given the huge number of people they are knowingly consigning to death or maiming?

In virtually every realm of public policy, Americans embrace policies which they know will kill people, sometimes large numbers of people. They do so not because they are psychopaths but because they are rational: they assess that those deaths that will inevitably result from the policies they support are worth it in exchange for the benefits those policies provide. This rational cost-benefit analysis, even when not expressed in such explicit or crude terms, is foundational to public policy debates — except when it comes to COVID, where it has been bizarrely declared off-limits.

The quickest and most guaranteed way to save hundreds of thousands of lives with policy changes would be to ban the use of automobiles, or severely restrict their usage to those authorized by the state on the ground of essential need (e.g., ambulances or food-delivery vehicles), or at least lower the nationwide speed limit to 25 mph. Any of those policies would immediately prevent huge numbers of human beings from dying. Each year, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), “1.35 million people are killed on roadways around the world,” while “crashes are a leading cause of death in the United States for people aged 1–54.” Even with seat belts and airbags, a tragic number of life-years are lost given how many young people die or are left permanently and severely disabled by car accidents. Studies over the course of decades have demonstrated that even small reductions in speed limits save many lives, while radical reductions — supported by almost nobody — would eliminate most if not all deaths from car crashes.

A well written and timely article.

Key Point: The cult of the woke don't even consider black people to be People. The woke view black people as a means to pump up their own egos as caregivers to the "helpless."

HINT:
how about the REFUSAL of CDC, FDA, moderna andpFizer EXECs
to take the noxious, gene-altering DNA operating systems?

or the REFUSAL to take informed consent, FIRST?

Reagan used cost/benefit analysis well to try and control government unsuccessfully.

Since Reagan, we have not heard any Republican or Democrat seriously talk about cost/benefit when discussing regulations, laws or spending.

a key example in Australia. small towns are going bust because of ridiculous lockdowns over a few alleged positive “cases” (now called “infections”) but no-one in authority cares. saw a comment today about a man driving to the little town next to his to visit the car wash - nothing was open except for the main supermarket.

here’s a typical example today from taxpayer-funded ABC which loves the lockdowns...for others, not themselves:

31 Aug: ABC: A false-positive COVID test ‘smashed’ this Queensland town but experts offer assurances over accuracy
ABC Southern Qld By Georgie Hewson and David Chen
A week ago, a truck driver who stopped in St George in the Balonne Shire returned a positive COVID test.

It turned out to be a false positive, but for Pelican’s Rest Caravan Park owner Sheryn Blundstone the damage had been done.

“I personally lost 53 cabin room nights between August and September through this incident,” Ms Blundstone said.
“In addition to the cancellations, I had about nine caravans just pack up and leave the park and just shoot through because they didn’t want to be here.
“It was quite devastating for me.”...

Mayor Samantha O’Toole said she understood the false-positive result came from a rapid test taken at Wilcannia in New South Wales.

Queensland Health did three subsequent tests, including serology, which came back negative.
Cr O’Toole said the false alarm had “smashed” the region’s tourism operators...
Wade Cameron, the owner of Kamarook Tourist park, also in St George, said It was a major blow to the industry reliant on the peak winter-spring period to get through the summer...

Cr O’Toole said false-positive cases were rare but almost unavoidable...
“[With] the sheer amount of testing that’s occurring at the moment, particularly in NSW, you’re going to get the odd false-positive on a rapid test...
A spokesperson from NSW Health says its pathology laboratories maintained high standards of quality control at all stages of testing and a quality assurance program is in place to review performance and diagnostic accuracy of tests.

Professor Ivo Mueller from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research said rapid tests occasionally produced false-positive results...
“They detect a molecule that is a protein that’s made from the from the virus, and then they’re using an antibody to detect that and sometimes you get full reactivity.”

(WTH?) He said polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were much more accurate.
“False positives in PCR are actually really, really rare because the PCR technology is very specific, and it only really gave a positive signal when it detects DNA,” Professor Mueller said...

He said a false positive was of less concern to authorities than a false negative.
“In the grand scheme of things, the bigger problem is the false negatives,” Professor Mueller said.
“If somebody has a negative rapid test and then actually turns out to be positive then that person could carry the virus and spread it.”...

CoupFlu has NEVER been about public health.

Of course not. If it were, there wouldn't be the constant propaganda campaign against the safe, effective and cheap early treatments available. I am a horse!

Not just propaganda.

Check out the latest amendment to the PREP Act and the bit about liability protection and covered countermeasures.

I have said from day one, there was no standard risk vs benefit analysis. Everything done was driven by political and emotional forces.

The reason things seem odd is simply because all the restrictions are not based on health requirement but on political requirements.

The left around the world are using this “pandemic” to make changes societal changes that they would not be able to do otherwise.

The fact that the Democrats discovered they could corrupt our elections by using the Pandemic to force people to vote by mail (the most unsecured method of voting) was just a bonus for them.

Here’s another site: https://www.openvaers.com/covid-data

They track any data the CDC deletes.

Good point. So what is the end-game here? Big Pharma ueber alles? Citizens cowering in fear and obeying every government dictate? The final revolution of the proletariat? The end of free will?

The people who are in charge concocted the covid crisis to get rid of Trump and move us closer to communism. They don’t care about the consequences.

Do you have any supporting evidence they refused the vaccine?
Do you have any supporting evidence that mRNA alters DNA?

Specifically, a new study by MIT and Harvard scientists demonstrates that segments of the RNA from the coronavirus itself are most likely becoming a permanent fixture in human DNA. (study linked below).

This was once thought near impossible, for the same reasons which are presented to assure us that an RNA vaccine could accomplish no such feat. Against the tides of current biological dogma, these researchers found that the genetic segments of this RNA virus are more than likely making their way into our genome. They also found that the exact pathway that I laid out in in my original article is more than likely the pathway being used (retrotransposon, and in particular a LINE-1 element) for this retro-integration to occur.

And, unlike my previous blog where I hypothesize that such an occurrence would be extremely rare (mainly because I was attempting to temper expectations more conservatively due to the lack of empirical evidence), it appears that this integration of viral RNA segments into our DNA is not as rare as I initially hypothesized.
