SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — Fire officials ordered more evacuations around the Tahoe Basin as a two-week old blaze encroached on the threatened mountain towns surrounding glimmering Lake Tahoe.
By nightfall, all residents on the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin were warned to evacuate the region, after fire officials had stressed for days that protecting the area was their top firefighting priority.
“Today’s been a rough day and there’s no bones about it,” Jeff Marsoleis, forest supervisor for El Dorado National Forest, said Sunday evening. A few days ago, he thought crews could halt the Caldor Fire's eastern progress, but “today it let loose.”

This is beyond depressing. What a crazy 24 hours its been. I watched Ida from a CAT2. Geeze. Here in Alabama we’ll get a piece of Ida beginning this afternoon.
Lots of very expensive homes on the Calif side....also in Nevada, but Squaw Valley has lots of high dollar stuff.
Gene Simmons bought a home on Lake Tahoe & left Calif.
IF his family needs to evacuate-—I have room for them here in N Nevada-—about 52 miles east.
I’ve been following this and the #DixieFire for weeks- it’s an awful mess out there. There are limited resources, unfavorable weather and tons of blame to pass around. Such beautiful country - forests and lakes. I can understand wanting to live there.
I guess it’s the devil you know- in Florida I’m used to hurricanes, not sure I could handle wildfires.
It beautiful, like living in a forest, thus the risk. It's like living on a low lying coastline, beautiful, with risk.

Evacuation orders extended to Tahoma on the WEST shore.
Barton Memorial Hospital now fully evacuated - ICU and skilled nursing transported last evening to out of area, rest this early morning.
Sierra-at-Tahoe resort burned but main buildings ok so far. Echo Lake burning
277 square miles total burned, 600 structures burned, and 14% contained. 3,500 firefighters engaged, 5 injuries
It really is beautiful and like Florida, with so many unique niches to explore. My first hurricane was Biloxi in Camille as a child, so my first Florida hurricane terrified me until it was over, thinking it would be the same!
