Marine who slammed military over Afghan mess says he’s resigning

A US Marine Corps veteran who was relieved of his command for chastising his bosses over the botched Afghan withdrawal has decided to call it quits.

Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, who came under fire after the bombastic Facebook post last week, said on YouTube Sunday that he’s sticking by his guns and resigning his commission — walking away from a $2 million pension after 17 years of military service.

“I could stay in the Marine Corps for another three years, but I don’t think that’s the path I’m on,” Scheller said. “I’m resigning my commission as a United States Marine effective now.

“I am forfeiting retirements, all entitlements, I don’t want a single dollar,” he said. “I don’t want any money from the VA. I don’t want any VA benefits. I’m sure I’m entitled 100 percent.”

At least he won’t have to get jabbed now.

That is a heartbroken man. I hope President Trump can find a spot for him.

Wasn’t he only months away from retiring? Will he lose any benefits?

Once a Marine always a Marine.

I have to respect his sense of honor and integrity to give up so much for his code of ethics (which the military leadership lacks) and convictions.

I wish him well in the next chapter of his life.

There’s probably hundreds just like him in the mid-ranks.

Captains, Majors, other Lt. Colonels.

3 years from retirement. Still eligible for medical VA, I believe.

Hopefully we don’t see him homeless on the streets down the road.

That’s a hell of a lot to walk away from. He has my respect and thanks for his service!

I think he was about three years from retirement.
He repeated many times and in many ways that he ‘didn’t need’ any of the VA benefits, including health care.
I hope for his sake he was serious, and has some savings.
I can’t blame him for retiring now. No doubt his final three years would be one form of petty B.S. retribution after another.

Yes. Trump needs to offer him any position the Marine wants. He will excel.

Thats the difference between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives are willing to lose it all in defense of freedom and liberty. While liberals see opportunities for personal gain in their protests, such as the founders of blm for example. Or shakedown artists such as Jessie, al and hunter for example.

Conservatives are far more principled in defense of conservative beliefs.

A Lt. Colonel & battalion CO who was commissioned 2 - 3 years after the war in Afghanistan began. He hasn’t known a time when his country & Corps weren’t at war there. Has to be tough to see it go down the way it did.

You can tell from his video statement that he’s having trouble expressing himself. He’s struggling with the ideas even while he’s making the statement.
