Like a said dumb question, but the neighborhood in which my hovel is located has underground electrical and cost doesn’t seem burdensome.

But then my hovel is not located in a swamp.

It just seems that some brainiac could come up with a better way. One that would actually save money over time.

New neighborhoods of 5 or more houses must be underground due to Lady Bird Johnson’s “beautification of America”.
More proof chicks don’t belong in politics or voting.
Insulated cable is more expensive than bare AAAC or ACSR.
Labor is far more intensive for underground, and for existing homes, you would need new easement rights for every single house.

You don’t give up do you. Putting underground electrical lines in a subdivision, is a lot different than putting an entire city’s cables underground. In addition to prohibitive cost, routine maintenance becomes very expensive and outages could last significantly longer.
