Texas GOP Advances Voting Bill After Democrats’ Holdout Ends

Texas Republicans advanced new voting restrictions Thursday night after months of protests by Democrats, who after returning from a 38-day walkout are now all but out of ways to stop a bill that includes a ban on drive-thru voting and would empower poll watchers.

The nearly 50-page bill passed the Texas House on a 79-37 mostly party-line vote, moving fast a week after Democrats ended their holdout. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott says he will sign the measure that is on track to reach his desk by early September, if not sooner.

In what is now the GOP's third try at passing the bill since May, the atmosphere was charged. For more than 12 hours Republicans defended the changes as safeguards while Democrats, who offered a raft of rejected attempts to soften the bill, continued to say it would disproportionately impact people of color. At one heated point Republican Dade Phelan, the House speaker, interrupted lawmakers to tell them not to accuse each other of racism -- or even say the word.

How terrible that the Texas Republicans have denied the rights of dead Democrats to vote.

The GOP needs to learn to fight as hard and dirty as the ‘rats.

Good job, TX.

...driven by former President Donald Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

My how I despise these people. A majority of voters in this country know the election was stolen despite how much the media tries to convince us otherwise.

Texas has or did have pretty much drive thru early voting.
But you did have to get out and go in and find/sign the
books for your precinct/district. Gone for a few years
so don’t know how they are doing it now. I always voted
early because I could do it at my time and much less hassle.

Texas is now set to become the last big GOP state to pass tighter voting laws driven by former President Donald Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

I stopped reading right there.

“Texas GOP Advances Voting Bill After Democrats’ Holdout Ends”

The authors just published their last article before being fired. The headline should have read:

“Texas GOP Advances Black-Subjugation ‘Voting Bill’ After Democrats’ Holdout Ends”

The left wing Austin Commie paper and AP both reference additional voting restrictions when in fact, the bill allows less restrictions like more required hours for early voting. Shame on the media for opinions crammed into reporting.

Never mind the facts.

You could be voting for an accused felon.

The candidate could have passed on.

Any number of things could take place putting the candidacy in jeopardy.

All for convenience of the voter? Not a good idea by any stretch of the imagination IMHO.

In fact all for the possible benefit of the loser party IMHO.

Voting is Tuesday or as specified by the State, unless you are military out of State and then their is absentee voting. If you are immobile too bad. If you are in hospital, too bad. In the drunk tank also too bad.

Accommodation only waters down the importance of voting.

Make it easy, and it equals just what we are experiencing. The very antithesis of what We the People should be desiring. JMHO!!!

So the Dems had a paid vacation and the bill was delayed a month.
