(Paraphrased read more at link)

Virginia GOP asked a court to remove McAuliffe from the November Gubernatorial ballot. Lawsuit claims McAuliffe failed to sign his declaration of candidacy, however, his two witnesses did sign the declaration. While a technicality, this document is a requirement in order to have a candidate's name appear on the ballot.

(Excerpt here) The lawsuit, filed in Richmond Circuit Court, argues that McAuliffe never signed his declaration of candidacy form, a step in the process to qualify for the primary and general election ballot. It also claims that two McAuliffe staffers who signed on as having witnessed McAuliffe signing the document did so falsely.

McAuliffe’s campaign derided the lawsuit as a “desperate” attempt to clear the path for his Republican opponent.

Good on the Republicans for thinking outside the box.

Witnessing a non-signature has to be a crime at some level.

So all the Democrats have to do is shop around for a judge who will say it’s all OK and his name can appear on the ballot.

So? Rules are rules. If a 'Pubbie failed to sign his declaration I doubt they would allow him on the ballot. But, of course, Democrats are special and laws, regulations, and rules don't apply to them.

I know two staffers who are in deep trouble. I believe that is perjury

I’m listening to talk radio about this right now. Apparently, there is precedent. Prior candidates in Virginia having failed to submit this document in good order had to run as a “write in” candidates.

Handles this the same way he’s going to be “Governor”, in absentia.

Except in this case the state printed the ballots despite a request for an injunction to stop it. This could have been resolved at that point but what now?

Why not? Obama did this with candidate Alan Keyes to knock him out of the race.

The cool thing about not signing is that the campaign finance laws can’t be help against him.

Technicalities. That’s how Obama kept his challengers off the ballot in Illinois.
Sauce for the goose, eh?

"So? Rules are rules."

If there's one thing I've notice of late it's that there is NO SUCH THING as rules.. We now live in a "If it feels good, do it" kind of society.. No rules, laws or guide post of any sort.!! Everything has become raciest, unfair and thereby void.. Including the constitution of the U.S...

Meh. This is a good move by the Virginia GOP because at the very least it will establish that these gotcha moves, usually directed at the Republicans, shouldn’t be taken seriously.

As for witnessing a non-signature, you miss the point, which is to verify that yes, it is McAwful and not someone else whose signature appears. If he then failed to sign it for some reason, that’s on him, not them. It would only be a crime if, for instance, McAwful refused to sign it saying that doing so would be attesting to facts that he doesn’t know to be true, and so someone counterfeit his name on the document, and they signed it, too.

In such a case, McAwful would be the wronged party: “No, you knew that there were flaws, and instead of fixing them, you stuck my signature on it, and now I’m accused of perjury.”

Of course, because McAwful has failed to assert the facts in the document, the state doesn’t know them to be true.

If they “allow” him to be on the ballot.
Repubs should point out that Mcauliffe allows staff to commit fraud in his behalf.
Or, he’s to stupid to sign important paper work?

Under the rules for COVID, you can just mail in stuff without signature verification. Heck, even if it arrived 10 days late...
