My fear is that yesterday’s suicide bomb attack was just a stray cannonball “recon by fire” lobbed into the Alamo by one of General Santa Anna’s gunners.
The Kabul Alamo Airport is indefensible, with no overhead cover for our troops. It’s surrounded by hills on three sides, and it’s inside a city of over 4 million. At any time, the airport can be hit with mortars, with no way to stop them.
The order to leave Bagram should have generals court martialed and jailed in disgrace. They should have resigned en-masse rather than agree to put troops into the Kabul Alamo with no local air base from which to cover them.
Kabul Alamo Airport should have just been a collection and ferry point for moving evacuees to Bagram by helo and only then onto C-17s. Now, if we move to retake Bagram, the Kabul Alamo will be mortared and massacred.
I saw a photo of about six C-17s wing parked tip to wing tip at KIA. A single mortar could wipe out billions of dollars of our best platforms in 5 minutes. And this can happen at any moment of the enemy’s choosing.
And now our hands are tied, like a man on a gallows with his neck in a noose. We have been left with no options, we are at the mercy of the Taliban, thanks to the fools, cowards and traitors we call our leaders.
Bagram is forty kilometers from Kabul. How do you get the embassy staff and U.S. citizens there?

Like the official Biden line, the author of this article whitewashes current events under the false rubric that we just needed to get out of Afghanistan. Yes, the vast majority of Americans wanted out. Trump was going to do that but Mitch McConnell and his deep state buds essentially nixed that. The real issue is surrendering Bagram, bringing all our troops home in the dead of night and leaving ten of thousands of American and NATO civilian to the Taliban wolves. This was a miscalculated withdrawal on such a scale as to be the very definition of malfeasance.
Biden has humiliated this country before the entire world. The repercussions of this is incalculable in my opinion. Just wait until the YouTube vids of the torture, killings, and rapes. I personally would never ever trust America. In fact, I refused to allow my son to follow my footsteps and join the military.
No, this is not simply about leaving, this is emblematic of a military and government that has been completely rotted out by wokism. And I predicted this, right here, long ago. And it’s not over. America will again suffer because significant damage because we fly the rainbow flag and “celebrate” pregnant fighter pilots.
Why just a mortar?
The Taliban has D-130 122mm howitzers. Dunno ‘bout serviceability, or ammo, but it would not surprise me if they had help getting them into action.
Kabul airport is a death trap - just like Dien Bien Phu. If the Taliban wants to stop the evacuation, they have means to do so.
Sounds more like your describing Dien Bien Phu to me, there wasn’t any high ground around the Alamo.
Here in Kabul we have an airport surrounded by ridges and hills at least 1800 t0 2000 meters, mortars, artillery, snipers etcetera can look right down their throats.
