Welp, so much for my theory.

Apparently two separate explosions. One at Abbey Gate, the other at the Baron Hotel near the airport, where Americans were airlifted the other day.
The United States just suffered the GREATEST military defeat of our LIFETIMES, far worse than in Vietnam, because North Vietnam just wanted us out, but had no intention of carrying the war to our shores, in a messianic crusade. And we did not leave THOUSANDS of Americans behind in Vietnam, as Benedict Biden has done in Afghanistan. Benedict will not be able to stop their infiltration amongst the refugees, or across our open southern border.
A couple days ago Biden told Americans to go to Airport.

Hard to evacuate if you can't go to the airport.
The Taliban can shut down the airport any time they want to, with rockets and artillery. Then no one gets out. As horrendous as the sight of the British and French leaving the perimeter to rescue their nationals, while the US troops remain in the airport is, it appears that Biden has left them, and himself, no choice. The evacuation continues only at the sufferance of the Taliban, and if they will allow the Brits and French, but not the Americans to leave the wire, that is how it has to be.
If the Taliban are willing to take very large casualties, the troops we have on the ground cannot possibly clear a perimeter, in the City of Kabul, large enough to allow C-17s to come and go without coming under artillery fire.
At this point, Saigon, 1975, is the best case scenario.
Điện Biên Phủ, 1954, is the worst case scenario.
Xenophon and the Ten-Thousand, 401 BC, is the middle case scenario. And at least our troops, stranded without allies deep in a hostile Asian land, would not have to march all the way to the sea, but just to a place where we can use aircraft to evacuate them.
