The Chinese government seized on a scheduling delay during Vice President Kamala Harris’ ongoing trip to Vietnam to undercut the White House’s planned outreach regarding COVID-19 vaccine supply, according to a report Wednesday.
Harris was set to announce a U.S. donation of one million doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine as part of a broader effort to cultivate closer ties with Vietnam and counteract Beijing’s influence in the region.
When Harris’ team experienced a three-hour delay ahead of her planned meeting with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, China sent its own diplomat to meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and offer two million vaccine doses, the Washington Post reported....

I am VERY disappointed in Harris.
As much as I am naturally a conservative, I was ready to be enthused by Harris about her making a donation of Covid vaccine to Vietnsm.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Vietnam has the very slowest vaccine rollout in Asia. SLOW. Just two percent of the population has been fully vaccinated yet. 2%.
Now granted that was partly because Vietnam had done (remarkably) against Covid, right up until April of this year. Practically zero cases. But that changed with the Delta variant. Now it is everywhere (especially in Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City. The city is as of last weekend, completely closed.
So here came Harris. The city NEEDS lots, and lots, and lots of vaccines. Many times the five million doses earlier given Vietnam. Twenty or thirty million to be sure. Maybe even fifty million.
So Harris shows up, and ... WOW ... (huh?)
One million doses. The entire biggest city is completely shut down, now for a month and a half now. The second largest city and capital is just shutting down, Only TWO PERCENT have completely vaccinated this far, and Harris gave us ... just one million.
The population of Vietnam is one hundred million!!!

That's playing hardball with the Vice President of the United States.
“...and counteract Beijing’s influence in the region.” For more than two thousand years the Vietnamese have fought off Chinese influence in their region. The last time was in 1979.
I think she should be sent around by Planned Parenthood as an example of how the kids may turn out if they don’t have an abortion.

Still, if you are going to engage in vaccine diplomacy, you can do better than we appear to have done thus far.
It’s not like there’s an oversupply of Americans lining up to take the three that have received EUAs here.
