Peruse this article where he emphatically stated 60%, then 65%, then 70%, then 75%, then 80% and now 90%. realizing the difference between 60% and 90% is a 50% increase, not just a small error.

It’s likely thru the attempt to mass vaccinate during the pandemic, not only did vaccinations apply selection pressure to promote the more transmissible variants; the variants effectively acted to ‘reset’ the herd immunity, such as it was, on the vaccinated.
Those who acquired natural immunity likely have a more broad spectrum immunity to variants. Those vaccinated have induced a very narrowly focussed immunity; thus the rising number of breakthroughs.
The only saving grace is as the breakthroughs cycle thru, people will develop their own innate immunity to them as their body fights off infection and they’ll achieve a more broad-spectrum immunity going forward.
So in spite of the mass vaccinations, we will likely see Covid eventually extinguish itself as a pandemic. The remaining unknown will be then any long term adverse effects from the vaccinations themselves.
