Biden’s US-first approach leaves NATO in the lurch --- Lack of US consultation with NATO on its Afghanistan withdrawal plans left its allies in the dark and highly vulnerable
asiatimes.com ^ | August 23, 2021 | Daniel Williams

On the weekend of August 14, German diplomats routinely driving through Kabul’s diplomatic quarter noted an oddity. US soldiers who usually keep guard had abandoned the compound.

The Germans also noticed that the road to the international airport, normally secured by American troops, was also undefended. They called around to Western colleagues and learned that the US had withdrawn the forces to their own embassy, according to German press reports.

Only the next day did US diplomats inform their allies that they, too, should leave the so-called Green Zone and head to the airport, as the Americans were already doing.

The casual lack of consultation was only one of several affronts inflicted on Washington’s North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies as US President Joe Biden’s disorganized retreat from Afghanistan took shape.

At the very least, it seemed an act of ingratitude. In a show of solidarity in 2001, NATO volunteered to help the US conquer Afghanistan after the 9/11 terror attacks on New York City and Washington. They then joined “nation-building” efforts to train Afghan security forces and build civil society. Now, they were being left in the lurch.

It should have come as no surprise. Allies were not consulted on Biden’s April decision to unconditionally withdraw from Afghanistan on a specific date. His decision replaced his predecessor Donald Trump’s condition that the Taliban should first set up a power-sharing agreement with the Afghan government. (continues at link)

US first? Why would anyone believe Biden is putting the US first in anything?

My first thoughts as well. Nothing about Xiden is America First. Xiden is all about Xiden, and the rest of the Marxist left is about killing the US.

I believe there were several delegates from several countries agreeable to the Trump plan for pulling our troops out.

Biden’s US-first approach

Seriously? No democrat and no RINO puts the US first in anything.

I’ve heard people say that Biden’s intention was to destroy anything positive Trump had achieved.

Biden queered the Afghanistan arrangement the way a jealous child breaks his sibling’s toys.

So, not content with monumentally screwing up the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Pentagon and State Departments have ensured our NATO allies will have Zero confidence in US resolve in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if they insist US troops get out of Europe. Its better to face the enemy alone than to have an untrustworthy ally.

read the entire story - this is much more than a “US First” act on Biden’s part. The troops of our NATO pardners have been working together with the US as a band of brothers for 20 years.

Biden has done some dumb things over there, or were they part of a White House/Obama overall plan. Why the massive buildup of new equipment, far more than would ever be needed, after the April announcement of a withdrawal?? Why the overnight, secret abandonment of the Bergram Airport?? Too may questions??

The United States’ tawdry, hopelessly mishandled withdrawal matters to the entire Western community because it has grim humanitarian consequences, Islamists have gained a base of operations and our global competitors are emboldened.

Dumbkirk Biden!:

Zactly....No one was ‘first’ in this train wreck.

Evidence, embassy staff scrambling to burn and destroy sensitive documents and equipment before getting on a CH46 to go to the airport. If you’re own folks don’t know, then who does?

Why would any nation ever be an ally of the USA in a military conflict? One stolen election, and the US will leave them with their flank exposed and the enemy armed with US weaponry.

Biden’s US-first

This should read, "US-Alone"

Kind of makes all of those European leaders looking like idiots after their fawning over Biden in his Bernie’s Last Vacation Tour. With Trump, he said what he meant and meant what he said. With Biden, he doesn’t know what he is saying and wouldn’t mean it even if he did. Not a great way to continue an alliance.

Trump has an America First policy.
Biden has a Biden first policy, a democrat policy first.

Or, maybe he only has a Pudding First policy.
