If the Taliban close the airport how will those 6,000 American troops be resupplied and withdrawn? They recently mocked the WW II raising of the American flag on IWO Jima. Wonder if these power drunk Taliban have fantasies of replicating Bataan? Sure there are many Taliban who lost relatives and friends and want another crack at the Americans and actually believe eternal rewards await them if they die in battle against the “infidels”.
I’m really surprised that some loose-cannon Isis or Al-qaeda fanatics have not started putting bombs into the crowds at the airports yet.
I’m also wondering how they’re going to get out, and don’t China isn’t getting involved, in order to help the Taliban capture the airport, with American soldiers as their new hostages.
This has a long way to play out.
Resupply just like we did in Khe Sanh (Low Altitude Parachute Extraction). When properly supplied, send them out to get our citizens. Then they can be withdrawn.
Good question. The Taliban can mortar those runways and close that airport at any time. The troops are trapped, just like the people outside the wire.
