Only Biden could have turned leaving Afghanistan into a public relations disaster on this scale
Most of the country WANTED us to leave and they are still mad at Biden for doing such an awful job of it. It really would have been a slam dunk for him too if he just followed Trump’s plan.
I seriously wonder if he even KNOWS what he’s done?
It appears that he took every point of the plan and did the opposite. And got the opposite results too.
I’ve said on other threads, Biden and his people were only thinking about the optics and the political talking points by trying to time the withdrawal with the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
They had no other plan. They said they planned for every contingency but obviously that is not true. They just wanted the photo ops and the anticipated claim of “victory” by withdrawal, and didn’t care about the troops, the diplomats, the aid workers, and our allies on the ground from all the nations including the Afghans who will now be called ‘collaborators’ and face severe punishment or death. Some will be sold in slavery while everyone else forced to adapt to an entirely new social order under threat of violence.
People are stranded in all regions of the country and there was no plan to move them into secure, safe zones for transport. It appears they didn’t even give them fair warning to get out. We didn’t even put up a fight or attempt to destroy the military equipment when it was clear Taliban was approaching without resistance.
They claim they didn’t expect that the Afghan security forces would collapse but that has to be untrue. After 20 years our military intel had to know what these people were willing and able to do. Besides, they had collapsed already in every other city, it had to be obvious they would collapse in Kabul soon too.
