Hurricane Henry was located around 180 miles east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina late Saturday morning.
The storm's maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph, hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles.
Henri was moving toward the north-northeast near 14 mph, though a faster northward to north-northeastward motion is forecast today, followed by a decrease in forward speed and a turn toward the north-northwest on Sunday.
The hurricane is expected to make landfall on Long Island or in southern New England on Sunday.
Additional strengthening is predicted to occur on Saturday night, though Henri is anticipated to weaken prior to landfall.
That said, the hurricane is projected to be at or near hurricane strength when it reaches the coasts of Long Island and southern New England.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warning of dangerous storm surge, flooding and the possibility of a tornado or two on Sunday over southern New England.
A hurricane warning for the southern coast of New England, including Rhode Island, was being extended eastward to west of Westport, Massachusetts, encompassing Block Island.
The NHC said a tropical storm warning for the coast of Massachusetts had been extended eastward, including Nantucket.
Officials in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York cautioned that people could lose power for a week -- or even longer.

All of those states that will be impacted need a good cleaning anyway. And without electricity for a week? Most of those folks are globull warming believers, why are they using electricity at all?
I got a warning on my iPhone of a dangerous storm surge.
Since I am 270 feet above sea level, it would have to be quite a surge to hit my area!
Global warming causes more hurricanes by decreasing the heat imbalance between the equator and the poles

Used to have a summer home on Cape Cod early on installed a whole house nat gas generator. Every time a nor easter blew in or we had a wind driven snow storm we would lose power anywhere from a few hours to several days.
Every time we lost power and the generator kicked in I would take a glass of wine out to it and raise the glass on high in a toast of gratitude. Best purchase I ever made and would not have a home without it now that I am old and not getting any younger.
Where’s Obama’s mansion on that map?
Way to the east. Martha's Vineyard will get a little wind from it but that's it.
Dammit!
East of Long Island..aw shucks...

Slim chance it might unexpectedly veer towards his place I guess.
Block Island, which is noted to be in the path, has 5 or six huge wind turbines offshore. We’ll see how they hold up.
Global warming does incredible things.
You need to look this up. You have it exactly backward. It is the heat imbalance between two air masses that causes cyclonic development. Temperature at the pole has nothing to do with it. Records show that there has been no increase in severe storm activity, at least in the last 100 years, even with a degree or so of warming. . Conditions for cyclones are more affected by factors such as ENSO activity.
