The renowned French scientist and virologist Didier Raoult -- who promoted the hydroxychloroquine drug -- could lose his post as head of Marseille's infectious diseases institute after the head of the city’s hospital system said it was time to find a successor.
Didier Raoult promoted the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine as a cheap treatment for Covid-19 at a time when the method was also being advocated without evidence by former US president Donald Trump and his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro.
Several studies, including one by the World Health Organization, have found hydroxychloroquine ineffective in treating Covid-19.
France banned use of the drug in May 2020.
Raoult heads up the infectious diseases institute (IHU) at Marseille University Hospital whose clinical studies are currently being investigated by the French medicines agency.
He is also a researcher and medical practitioner at the University of Aix-Marseille but has hit retirement age.
Professor Jean-Luc Jouve, head of the city's medical commission, told French daily Le Monde on Thursday that 69-year-old Raoult had requested to continue in his post at the hospital on a part-time basis, but that his proposal would not be accepted.
Francois Cremieux, the head of Marseille's hospital system, told the newspaper that it was not reasonable for the virologist to carry on at the IHU once he is no longer conducting university research.
He and other senior regional medical executives are to launch a procedure in September to find a successor to the 69-year-old scientist.
"There is a need to turn a page and organise the future of the IHU for the next 20 years," Cremieux said.
Raoult has cultivated an anti-establishment persona and is seen as a local hero by some in the southern French city of Marseille which prides itself on its independence from Parisian orthodoxy.
The hashtag #TouchePasARaoult (Hands off Raoult) has been trending on Twitter.
The virologist has strong support among opponents of France's health pass, notably hard-right politician Florian Philippot who has launched a petition in his support.
Raoult has released videos on the IHU's YouTube channel throughout the pandemic, picking up more than half a million subscribers. One where he discusses the resurgence of the epidemic among vaccinated people has been viewed three million times.
"L'Islande a plus de cas maintenant que jamais alors que l'Islande est le pays qui a été le plus vacciné de tous les pays développés", a dit @raoult_didier dans une vidéo de l'@IHU_Marseille

While he has stated his support for the "systematic vaccination of healthworkers", one of his recent videos appeared to cast doubt on the efficacy of vaccination as a weapon to fight the pandemic. "While Iceland has vaccinated more than any other developed country, it now has more infections than ever," he said.
However he failed to mention that having vaccinated more than 90 percent of its population (356,991 in 2019), just 7 Covid patients are currently in ICUs in Iceland and 30 people have died from Covid, according to the country's official figures.
Jean-Luc Jouve said the virologist was giving "grist to the mill of conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers" noting that some 95 percent of Covid patients in intensive care in French hospitals were not vaccinated.
Ping FYI
HCQ, that has been around for decades, unproven? Doctors around the world have had great success with it to treat the non-existent virus and the non-existent variants.
See, I can do it, too. [Reily Poole, National Treasure]
People have promoted the so-called "engine lubricant" motor oil as a cheap solution for automobile engine lubrication at a time when the method was also being advocated without evidence by former US president Donald Trump and his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro.
Several studies, including one by me, have found motor oil ineffective in lubricating auto engines.
After the test engines started seizing up and smoking, motor oil was added to the engines to "lubricate" them.
This was totally ineffective.
Not only that - it will kill you dead if you use it for anything other than lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or as an antimalarial prophylactic.
HCQ knows when you're being naughty with your usage. No one can lie to HCQ.
Ivermectin is also a "smart drug" that will kill you if it knows you're using it for the wrong things, like pretending you're a horse, and whatnot.
Unproven? Tell it to the Indians, Bangladeshi, Pakistanis, and most of the malarial infested third world.
And President Trump has revealed yet another fact of this world:
"If you have control of the Media and social media, you can lie freely."
Several studies, including one by the World Health Organization, have found hydroxychloroquine ineffective in treating Covid-19.......
Several studies!!!!! And by now anyone with a critical mind knows the WHO is a bought and paid for joke.
Dr Raoult and many other infectious disease MD’s have reams of data showing HCQ with zinc and doxcycline or zithromax when given early reverse the disease.
The shoddy studies against were designed to fail as they gave HCQ alone to hospitalized patients.
I hate what these bastards are doing to the practice of medicine.
Iceland is proof vaccines work. 343K people, 96% women and 90% men vaccinated for a 93% average vaccinated, which leaves an unvaccinated population of about 24K. In a country that spends a lot of time indoors, 30 deaths, last one was May 25, 2021.
For Aug 19, there were 30 vaccinated breakthroughs (30/319,000 or 1 in 10,000) and 28 unvaccinated (28/24,000 or 1 in 1,000)
Not only is it a randomized study on already hospitalized patients where a large number was already depending on supplemental oxygen, the loading dose of HCQ was toxic (not the dose used against malaria, but against amoebic liver abscess, same as in the British RECOVERY study, the only study indicating cardiotoxic effects of HCQ), and of course no macrolide (eg Azithromycine) or zinc supplementation.
Designed to fail!
Sounds like retribution.
He was trying.
His results were good.
To me it seemed the azithromycin was the key drug helping.
What you write is true, but it is quite obvious that Iceland has had another wave of infection despite its great vaccine coverage. And there is quite a number of “breakthrough” infections, although, the incidence is very much higher for the unvaccinated ones. Early in August the Icelandic authorities warned that they were close to overloading their public health capacities:
As usual when it comes to this highly charged subject, people are talking across each other. Professor Raoult was not disputing the effect of the vaccines (on an individual basis - ie for those people at high risk - they reduce the risk of disease, and especially severe disease), but whether a nation can rely on mass-vaccination to protect against waves of infections. Unfortunately, Iceland is a prime example it does not work - most likely ameliorating the effects, but does not protect against waves of variant viruses.
It worked for me
He is not popular within the medical establishment in France. Recently the IHU published a paper on the treatment strategies of COVID-19 in France, and especially one graph is illuminating, where the mortality across age groups is shown for different countries, and the Institute of Infectious Diseases in Marseille (IHU).
France is top in mortality together with countries like Spain, Italy, the UK, whereas the mortality for the patients treated by the IHU is the same or lower than China an South Korea.
The highest mortality rates in France is in the Paris area and areas to the east of Paris. Of course the medical establishment is concentrated in Paris....
Iceland is now labelled red in the weekly COVID-19 travel map issued by the ECDC today. This affects travel and quarantine regulations in many European countries for those arriving from Iceland. Yesterday’s numbers have been updated on covid.is. Iceland reported 151 new domestic cases (68 in quarantine) and 3 at the border. Total active cases: 1,388. 18 are in hospital. Fully vaccinated: 68.85% of population. 55 of yesterday’s 151 domestic cases of COVID-19 were among unvaccinated people, the highest number since the current wave began in mid-July.
So who’s telling the truth....
Thanks.
Good post!
They tested it on already hospitalised patients + used a dangerously high dosage of HCQ + THEY USED NO ZINC.
As I understand it (please correct me) the entire point of the HCQ treatment is as a way to increase Zinc uptake.
I’d say Iceland is telling the truth. 1 in 10,000 cases in vaccinated versus 1 in 1000 for unvaccinated and no vaccinated in hospital.
Iceland opened travel in June. They’ve since put a lid on it, with 10 day minimum travel quarantine for unvaccinated. Mandatory testing and isolation on arrival until the test comes back, vaccinated or no. Unvaccinated and people who have no familial ties to Iceland to continually test, and a travel lockdown possible. Not a good place to be stuck - it smells like fish fertilizer factory 4 days a week all day and all night.

From the HCQ meta study in my post just above:
“•Negative meta analyses of HCQ generally choose a subset of trials, focusing on late treatment, especially trials with very late treatment and excessive dosages.”
Said another way, studies were done that were designed to fail.
