Here’s the way to think about it: if a treatment has potential to work, the disease is fatal, and there are no major side effects, then you use that treatment.

The decision metric is easy— look at how many deaths and hospitalizations in the last month and look at which ones made the “informed” decision. out how many made the best decision. The people dead overwhelmingly (90%+) made the wrong vaccine decision. Covid vaccine deaths are so rare people post about them happening half way across the globe. But feel free to give me your number of people in the US who died from a vaccine vs. died without a vaccine in the last 6 months.

I’m asking what has been a common issue showing up for COVID death and “hospitalization” (BTW, what does that mean? They tested positive, or really clearly had to be admitted?).
I have experience with COVID.
A. MIL died Jan 6. 77. Bad pneumonia from it. She was fat…no other word for it. BMI 44. Had some other issues too but seemed so healthy and active.
In Dec all my immediate relations had it.
B. Moms friend. 87. had a VERY rough medical year, in and out of hospital and nursing homes before heading to hospital again for UTI issues. Tested pos this time. Previously fat, not so much since her other major issues have come up last few years. Told us she was pos so we could alert. She was out of nursing home by New Years.
C. Mom, 83, frail. No real problems except major double scoliosis and COPD probably mostly because of former. Within days she was sick with COVID after meeting with friend B. Tested positive about 3 days later. Cold. Fine.
D. Me. 51, thin average. Lots of unknown issues yet undiagnosed (possibly menopause) including major fatigue and “out of breath easily. Tested mom C and started feeling symptoms same day. Tested pos next day. Minor irritations but mostly major fatigue for up to 2 weeks. Fine.
E. Hubby. 54, obese but mostly stomach. No real issues. Had minor irritations of a cold then major fatigue for 2 wks. Fine.
F. Son. Thin healthy 12. Minor cold symptoms over a few days. Fine.
G. Cousin. 45 Thin, can have weight issues, asthma all life. Smokes. Lives with mom C. Major fatigue up to 2 wks. Fine. All of us family were done by Christmas.
I could keep listing more distant relatives and my E hubby’s relatives who live close to MIL A. MIL does not live close to us and had not gone to her since Oct. anyway, while it shows how “random” it can be, I do not see the huge risk that justifies an unknown risk of a vax, much less since I had the disease.
That’s a lot of experience. I have similar stories— a few deaths in the extended family and hospitalizations.
Anyone who has successfully fought off a full blown case of covid may be fine skipping the vax. 2 weeks of fatigue and risk of death doesn’t sound like much fun... being isolated from my family for that time also doesn’t sound fun — (I quarantined from my family for four days due to a 1 day fever and symptoms, but no tests were available so I have no idea if I had covid— whatever I caught was mild.)
Anyway, wish you and your family well. My beef is with the conservatives who die because they failed to get vaxxed— it makes conservatives look like a bunch of loons— and of course there are left wingers who don’t vax and end up dead too— but those won’t get the media coverage and ridicule that the media will dish out on republicans.

The mRNA vaccines target the spike protein. And IIRC just portions of the spike protein rather than the entire structure. The pharms had a deadline for getting something out, the more they tried to do the longer it would take. They calculated what they thought would be the vulnerable part of the virus and targeted that. Which is fine until the virus mutates in a way that still infects us while getting around the vaccine.
There’s been several variants before delta but the public at large didn’t hear about them since the vaccine works on them. Delta is the first to elude the vaccines. More could occur because Covid is an unstable virus prone to mutations. Flu is a classic example of another unstable virus. You get an annual flu shot not because “they aren’t real vaccines” (they are real vaccines) but because that flu mutates fast enough that the previous year’s vaccine can’t stop the newest variant. If we are unlucky Covid will be more like flu than like smallpox or polio.
Vaccinated Florida man, Clark Allen, father of seven children, died from a breakthrough case of COVID. In his obituary, written by two of his daughters, Danielle and Nicole Allen-Gentile, were these words:
“He was infected by someone who chose to not get vaccinated and his death was preventable. It is the wish of his family that everyone get vaccinated in order to prevent further death, sickness and heartbreak.”

I”ve had Covid (Jan 20) and the J&J Vaxx (june 21).
The vaxx is what I’m more worried about due to the clotting issues. I take Plavix, aspirin and Pine Bark extract and lots of water to reduce the clotting. It works well imo.
