I ran Team Trump’s Afghan withdrawal — Biden’s attempt to blame us is just sad
New York Post ^ | August 19, 2021 6:35pm | By Kash Patel

Trump instructed me to arrange a conditions-based, methodical exit plan that would preserve the national interest. The plan ended up being fairly simple: The Afghan government and the Taliban were both told they would face the full force of the US military if they caused any harm to Americans or American interests in Afghanistan.

Next, both parties would negotiate to create an interim-joint government, and both sides had to repudiate al Qaeda. Lastly, a small special-operations force would be stationed in the country to take direct action against any terrorist threats that arose. When all those conditions were met — along with other cascading conditions — then a withdrawal could, and did, begin.

We successfully executed this plan until Jan. 20, 2021. During this interval — when there were no US casualties in Afghanistan — President Ashraf Ghani and the Taliban conducted multiple rounds of negotiations, and al Qaeda was sidelined. The result was a successful drawdown of US forces in Afghanistan to 2,500, the lowest count since the dawn of the War on Terror.

Former Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller claimed that the Trump administration never intended to completely pull of out Afghanistan. Ex-Trump official Chris Miller says Taliban deal was a ‘play’ never intended to pull troops We handed our entire plan to the incoming Biden administration during the lengthy transition. The new team simply wasn’t interested.

Everything changed when the new commander in chief declared that US forces would leave Afghanistan by Sept. 11, 2021, pushing back the Trump administration’s timetable by four months. Crucially, he didn’t condition the withdrawal on continued adherence to the agreed-upon stipulations. It would be an unconditional pullout with an arbitrary date based on pure symbolism — and set in stone.

There was always going to be a residual force left behind to unleash the hounds of Hell if the Taliban did what they did.

And I highly respect Kash Patel. If it is the same guy I am thinking of, he worked intimately with Devin Nunes on the Obama spying scandal, did stellar work.

I trust every word that comes out of this guy’s mouth.

Ya mean President Trump had an orderly withdrawal set up before Biden’s puppeteers wadded it up and tossed it in the trash?
Whodathunkit?

Biden's Afghan withdrawal was a Chinese orchestrated stunt to embarrass the US and further remove us from the world stage.

Resident Bai Din serves his Chinese masters well.

My question is: when will Chinese 'peace keepers' be allowed in to protect us from the angry white Christian 'American Taliban' (as retired Lt. Commander Montel Williams called us)?

Not according to the agreement reached with the Taliban. All troops were to be gone May 11. Are you suggesting Trump would have sent them back in?

From another article on the same page as the link...Chris Miller - Secretary of Def. under Trump. The plan was not to pull out completely, butto leave some US forces there.

“the new government would allow US forces to remain to support the Afghan security forces and to fight terrorists.
“While serving on the National Security Council, Miller said it was determined that the US could continue to run counterterrorism missions in Afghanistan with only 800 military personnel.

“We did plenty of wargames on this and we knew what the minimal force structure was,” he said. “The number was 800. If this all goes bad, what is the minimal force structure needed to maintain [counterterrorism] strike and reconnaissance capability? We can do it for 800, 850.”

I hate to say it but....

The democrats will be known for ending the unpopular Afghanistan war. They will run on this in 2024 and 2028

Democrats are playing the long game here

The average Joe doesn’t care about some 9th century crap hole when he cant make is truck payments....

Dems will point to this as a policy success and took this poisonous arrow out of Trump’s / GOP 2024 quiver....

Smart move, in the long run

Thank you. We were never planning to abandon our foothold on China’s doorstep.

Parroting the Democrats is not the same as researching the issue.

It's impossible to imagine how it could have been worse than Biden's. But it could have been a mess in its own way.

If all Americans and Afghani interpreters have been withdrawn, bomb the homes of the leaders of both sides a la Solimani?

The armaments were left to the Afghan Army.

Abandoning Bagram Airbase with all of the facilities and armaments inside it by turning off the power in the middle of the night and not informing the Afghan military or the Afghan government is NOT leaving the armaments to The Afghan Army. First looters came in and then the Taliban came in to take over everything.

Here's the Text of the agreement signed with the Taliban on Dohar. Nothing in there about any residual force.

I think Biden knew this was going to be a debacle, but he thought the blame Trump card would suffice.

And does not.

So, were going to leave about as many people as we have in Syria...even though Biden isn’t aware we have any there.

I’ve read the Doha agreement and you are correct.
However, nothing has ever prevented Trump from changing his mind

What does the Trump administration do?
+++++
My question as well. And a post withdrawal action by the Taliban would, without U.S. intervention, certainly have resulted in the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

And so, if that highly likely event happened, we would have a relatively clean exit but be left with what we have now - a Taliban Afghanistan.

Trump needs to tell us what he would have done then.

Osama Bin Laden.. Smarter then the entire Biden Administration:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9911499/Osama-bin-Laden-predicted-Joe-Biden-lead-America-crisis.html Bin Laden - then-leader of al Qaeda, and the man that America went to Afghanistan to kill - penned the 48-page missive in May 2010 to an aide identified as 'Brother Shaykh Mahmud', real name Atiyah Abd al-Rahman.

In it, he discusses the need to direct resources away from terror attacks in other Muslim countries and instead focus on direct attacks against the US.

On page 36, he outlines his desire to form two hit squads - one in Pakistan and another in Afghanistan - whose job it will be to plot attacks against then-US President Barack Obama and ex-CIA director David Petraeus, should they visit either country.

Giving his reasoning for attacking Obama, he says: 'Obama is the head of infidelity and killing him automatically will make Biden take over the presidency for the remainder of the term, as it is the norm over there.

'Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the US into a crisis.'

He the adds: 'As for Petraeus, he is the man of the hour in this last year of the war, and killing him would alter the war's path.'
