CHINA has threatened Taiwan with "immediate war" after it was falsely reported that the US has 30,000 troops in the region.
Chinese warships, anti-submarine aircrafts and fighter jets were dispatched for military drills close to the island nation following alleged "external interference and provocations".
Now, Beijing's state-run media has launched a scathing attack on Taiwan, which China claims as its territory, after a US Senator tweeted out bogus troops numbers in the region.
John Cornyn, a Republican Senator from Texas, today claimed on Twitter that there were "30,000" American soldiers in Taiwan - despite there being no US troops in the country since 1979.
This led to a furious response from Hu Xijin, the Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese propaganda machine Global Times, claiming Beijing would "immediately launch a war to eliminate and expel the US soldiers."
He tweeted: "Now, the US and the Taiwan authorities must explain. If it is true that the US 30,000, or less than that number, soldiers stationed on the Taiwan island, Chinese military forces will immediately launch a war to eliminate and expel the US soldiers."

Taiwan spends 1.7% of GDP on defense. Those are Western European levels. It budgets for a defense force of 225,000 total army and support staff, but can’t actually fill those numbers. 1/3 of its armored units are inactive due to manpower constraints. Taiwan has reduced its time of required conscription for young men to 4 months with a period of weekend training afterwards
IMHO - Taiwan is absolutely counting on Big Uncle Sam to come to its rescue. As the threats from China increase, Taiwan has done less and less to defend itself.
Just calling in the favors they are owed.
20 years ago they did a Proof Of Concept by doing live naval fire drills not far from Taiwan ports having insurance companies suspend coverage for vessels entering Taiwan.

If I was the CCP, the invasion of Taiwan would begin next Monday.
This is not a country that is capable of fighting wars anymore. We are coming apart at the seams.
No United States President after LBJ would have gone to war with China over one of its provinces.

What makes you think our military leaders will do better against China than they did against the Taliban and everyone else in the last 50 years?
The Chinese are more brutal than the Taliban and would destroy us rapidly while we play "nice" and minimize civilian casualties.
Of course, Biden would never go up against China in the first place.
