Liz Cheney: 'No Question' Trump and Pompeo 'Also Bear Very Significant Responsibility' Over Afghanistan
Townhall ^ | 15 August 2021 | Rebecca Downs

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), referred to by former President Donald Trump as the "most quoted Republican in the history of our country by Democrats," strongly denounced both the Biden and Trump administrations for their handling of Afghanistan during her Sunday appearance on ABC's "This Week."

In an exchange with co-anchor Jonathan Karl, Cheney discussed how this "didn't happen in a vacuum," when it comes to the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Cheney's focus was on criticizing the Trump administration in particular. "Look, I think absolutely President Biden bears responsibility for making this decision. But there is no question that President Trump, his administration, Secretary Pompeo, they also bear very significant responsibility for this," she responded when asked who is responsible.

“Actually She’s correct. Who signed the Doha Agreement?”

Trump campaigned to “end the endless wars,” and that promise was a major factor in his victory in 2016. It was what the voters wanted, after 20 years of inconsistent goals and incoherent strategies, and thousands of American casualties. The Doha Agreement was simply the formal confirmation of Trump’s campaign pledge.

This woman is the most vapid, vacant, unintelligent woman there is.

She’s a Cheney. The same Cheney spawn of a patriarch that the left excoriated for years as the next coming of Hitler. Because of that, she will never be accepted by the left. She only has value now as a congressperson who trashes Trump. After the next election, she won’t have that. She may get a temporary gig on CNN or MSNBC, but she’ll always be looked at with suspicion and a certain amount of loathing by the left, and she’ll never have a connection again with the right. She will truly be — a woman without a country.

This is the most incredible self inflicted wound since her father shot his bird hunting partner. It’s really a slow-motion car wreck in progress...

Wow. She should be so ashamed of what’s happened in Afghanistan that she should change her last name, to go along with her changing parties.

Keeping the TalleyBahn suppressed and keeping AlQida, the MB and ISIS outta Afghanistan for 20 years is a Good Thing.

If those were the only goals, things could’a been done WAY cheaper.

Afghans apparently want to continue to be Muslim. Let them try it out for a couple of years[decades/centuries/millennia...].

Everybody’s being too tough on Afghanistan. Just because they couldn’t a single damn SOB willing to fight the Taliban in twenty years doesn’t mean Afghanistan isn’t a great country. It’s great in other ways! It’s like Lez B.N. Cheney and her father Dick Les Cheney. They never wore the uniform. But, because they’re great in other ways, they can send others to defend a country when the people of that country won’t defend it.

With the fall of Afghanistan, the corrupt president and vice president have fled the country, to join the billions of dollars in Switzerland they redirected from our aid money. Also, the State Department won’t have to worry about splitting the bribe money between the tribal candidates after their so-called elections where, Philadelphia-style, votes show up in excess of the estimated population in places dominated by the “winning” party. And, all those trade concessions and mineral rights that we never got, they’ll be going to China. Like that’s a surprise to anybody.

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday evening blasted his succesor’s strategy for exiting Afghanistan, saying it was driven by “weakness, incompetence, and total strategic incoherence.”

“Joe Biden gets it wrong every time on foreign policy, and many other issues,” Trump said in a statement issued by his office. “Everyone knew he couldn’t handle the pressure. Even Obama’s Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, said as much.”

Trump said his administration left behind a plan to keep pressure on the Taliban while U.S. troops withdrew, and that it was disregarded. He suggested the sudden surge by the Taliban across Afghanistan was due to that failure.

Biden “ran out of Afghanistan instead of following the plan our Administration left for him— a plan that protected our people and our property, and ensured the Taliban would never dream of taking our Embassy or providing a base for new attacks against America,” he said.

Former Pentagon chief of staff Kash Patel told Just the News on Friday that Trump’s plan included continuing U.S.air power to keep the Taliban in check and try to force them into negotiations.
