In Afghanistan, the Tragic Toll of Washington Delusion
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 15, 2021 | H.R. McMaster and Bradley Bowman

Posted on 08/15/2021 11:03:51 AM PDT by ConservativeInPA

The world is witnessing in Afghanistan a vivid and painful display of what happens when leaders in Washington delude themselves regarding persistent threats, the nature of America’s enemies and the ability to end wars by simply going home.

On April 14, ignoring predictions of dire consequences, President Biden announced that all U.S. forces would depart by Sept. 11—20 years to the day after jihadist terrorists used their safe haven in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to launch the deadliest terrorist attack in history.

As U.S. forces departed, the Taliban seized the initiative and launched an offensive on Afghan cities, taking control of the large majority of provinces in 11 days. The takeovers in the north exposed the Taliban’s plan, along with al Qaeda, to isolate and overthrow the elected government in Kabul and subjugate the country under its brutal form of Shariah. The fall of Kandahar on Thursday gave the Taliban a major symbolic victory in the ideological center of the antimodernist and misogynist movement. The fall of Ghazni, Laghman, Logar and Paktia provinces on Kabul’s doorstep enabled the disaster we are now seeing in the capital.

In areas they conquer, the Taliban conduct mass executions and assassinate journalists and anyone else who might oppose their perverted theocratic dictatorship. The Taliban force women to “marry” terrorists, who rape them, force them to wear the burqa and otherwise strip them of rights they have enjoyed for nearly two decades. Taking stock of this catastrophe and determining what might be done to limit the damage requires a rejection of Washington’s fantasy and an acknowledgment of Afghanistan’s reality.

How did the IC miss this? How did the IC miss the Covid debacle that started in China around September, 2019? How did the IC miss the dangers of having almost 100% of our PPE and pharmaceuticals made in China? How is the IC missing the fact that most of the batteries for electrical vehicles are made and will be made in China?

How did the Military’s top Generals miss all the above? Ditto for the State Department? It seems only Trump and his team know what the heck is going on and willing to do what needs to be done.

Don’t get me started on the Southern Border. As far as I am concerned we need to Defund DC. DC incompetence is an existential threat to the survival of this country.

Taliban to declare ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ soon – report:

The Taliban, who have rampaged across Afghanistan in recent days and earlier today entered the capital, Kabul, are on the verge of declaring that they have taken control of the country and that it is now the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, according to Press Association reports citing a Taliban official.

The declaration is expected to be made from the presidential palace in Kabul following the departure of Afghanistan’s president, Ashraf Ghani, earlier, who apparently fled, initially to Tajikistan. His current location is unconfirmed.

Senior Taliban commanders announced within the last two hours that they had taken control of the palace, according to news wire reports. More details and further confirmation are awaited.

Taliban are in Kabul

How did the IC miss this?

Well, you know what they say about the IC. They lack intelligence.

Who or what nation, will ever again trust any American president again?

Even worse, what American serving in the military will ever trust Biden's decisions on any foreign or military matter?

Best thing for anybody serving in the military to do now, is to start looking for service out of the military. Why follow somebody who doesn't have their backs and who is wrong all the time?

Yes - they came right out of hiding, marching across the country, exposed to airstrikes. The Biden administration just watched and did nothing.

Al Qaeda rises from the ashes and has its client state back to enrich itself and stage its terror operations again. They probably already have their next September 11th style attack planned...and with our borders wide open, I wouldn't be surprised if they already have arrived.

Unfortunately they would be fools to do so...even if an individual American President could be trusted, they can't count on us to continue to elect subsequent Presidents who can be.

Trump was going draw down the troops as well - with the caveat that if the Taliban / Al Qaeda tried to pull what they are doing now, they would be immediately bombed into oblivion as soon as they started. Biden just watched.

No way in hell would Trump have abandoned the Bagram air base until the last U.S. troops and personnel were on their way out for good.

“How did the Military’s top Generals miss all the above?”

Is it possible they were too busy preening in front of their mirrors, admiring their chests full of administrative ribbons - as opposed to ribbons for valor - and practicing their most menacing martial facial expressions, to notice anything else?

Let’s wait for the new country to try to trade, deal and communicate with the world community.

Of course, they will have China and therein lies the rub.

It will be interesting.

"ANY way we get out of Afghanistan is good. I’ll take it and chalk it up as a win."

I disagree, Sir. Not this way with our tails between our legs. Trump had an agreement with the Taliban...break it and watch me devastate you, to paraphrase. Just hours later they attacked a security post. Trump sent in the fighters and erased those bastards. Then the Taliban requests "de-escalation". There were no further attacks.

I still can't stop the tears. Imagine all the combat Vets across the country with horrific wounds and the families of KIA's and what they are feeling right now. I have no words for them. I'm truly at a loss.
