23 min ago Biden announces he's authorized 5,000 troops to Afghanistan to ensure "orderly and safe drawdown"

President Joe Biden announced in a statement on Saturday the deployment of an additional 5,000 troops to Afghanistan, “to make sure we can have an orderly and safe drawdown of US personnel and other allied personnel and an orderly and safe evacuation of Afghans who helped our troops during our mission and those at special risk from the Taliban advance.”

Biden is also announcing a series of actions aimed at deescalating the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, including directing the intel community “to ensure that we will maintain the capability and the vigilance to address future terrorist threats from Afghanistan,” tasking Secretary of State Tony Blinken with supporting Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, conveying to Taliban representatives in Doha “that any action on their part on the ground in Afghanistan, that puts US personnel or our mission at risk there, will be met with a swift and strong US military response,” and tasking Ambassador Tracey Jacobson with efforts “to process, transport, and relocate Afghan special immigrant visa applicants and other Afghan allies.”

“When I came to office, I inherited a deal cut by my predecessor— which he invited the Taliban to discuss at Camp David on the eve of 9/11 of 2019—that left the Taliban in the strongest position militarily since 2001 and imposed a May 1, 2021 deadline on US forces,” Biden wrote. “Shortly before he left office, he also drew US forces down to a bare minimum of 2,500. Therefore, when I became President, I faced a choice—follow through on the deal, with a brief extension to get our forces and our allies’ forces out safely, or ramp up our presence and send more American troops to fight once again in another country’s civil conflict.”

I am no fan of the Taliban…but it’s not them who broke the deal. We were supposed to be out of there months ago.

Some of us have been warning that it was a terrible time to be in the US military...the Democrats are a disaster in foreign policy—on their good days.

Not that every adult in the United States didn't see the Blame Trump meme crawling out of its swampy mudhole, but it's still more than a little annoying. What Biden "inherited from his predecessor" was a working peace deal and a timetable agreed upon by all sides. The one who abrogated this was none other than Biden, or rather his staff working under the "undo everything Trump did" paradigm. U.S. troops were there after 1 May because he said so, not because of Trump. If the Taliban saw this as a golden opportunity to take everything they wanted from an incompetent weakling, who could blame them?

So now in order to draw down we're escalating. Is it 3000 troops, 5000, or 8000? Nobody seems to know. What will their mission be? Nobody knows. Where will the evacuees go? Nobody knows. If there's a plan at all beyond Blame Trump it certainly hasn't shown its face. And if we found the border crisis to be a hot potato no one in the Biden regime wanted to touch, this one is going to be even more of an orphan. What's Lloyd Austin think about this? Who is Austin? Why, he's our sitting Secretary of Defense. What about the CJCS? Is Milley too busy promoting transgender drill teams and Critical Race Theory in the ranks to comment on a shooting war? Is anyone home?

This is not nearly enough. We should go back in with real power and pound these dirtball Taliban with a real attack to so them that we mean business. We should not leave with our tail between our legs. If Biden cannot do it, get him out of there and bring Trump back.

It’ll be choppers to the airport or some version of Desert One where 130s can land and take off. Abandoning bvb the choppers and vehicles. Could this be pulled off ? Hell Yeah. But with this group in power it might be more of a disaster thsn Desert One.

This might have worked three months ago—But the Taliban smell blood and victory—They will go all out to win—and the former Army will join them in expelling the hated Crusaders. Our woke army will be swept away by a rag tag group of barbarians. They will need to send in a million more men, maybe use nukes, to stop this bloodbath. Even that will not work. Face it—we lost and this belongs to Biden and his loony tune Progressives. Maybe they should send in Antifa college students and see how calling the Taliban Racists works?

So the war isn't over.

More troops in harms way, and the Taliban will say their presence is evidence of bad faith.

Meanwhile it is not allowed to police our own cities.

YES!!!

This is a shit show that puts America’s best in harm’s way.

Right now they are trying to get a mass of anti-aircraft weapons.
Only one way in and one way out of the craphole.

I have heard that Air Force 1 has anti-missile defenses.
Send ahole Joe in AF1 to drew fire, so the ones he ORDERED in might get in and out.

Biden was a major force in the Senate Democrats stabbing South Vietnam in back in 1975.

Now he is doing the same to Afghanistan 50 years later.

Two historic military defeats and disastrous withdrawals in one career

How many politicians have a resume like that

What a guy!
