McALLEN, Texas—In interviews last weekend, some illegal immigrants said they plan on working when they settle in the interior of the United States. Others said they want to study here first so they can support their families.
A migrant from Honduras told The Daily Caller News Foundation that he worked dishwashing and other restaurant jobs in Guatemala before crossing through Mexico and eventually entering the U.S. unlawfully near La Joya, Texas. He and another Honduran man said last Saturday night that they plan to study so they can better support themselves and their families once they’re settled in the U.S.
“You need to suffer for it. You need to sweat for it,” a man from Ecuador said shortly after illegally entering the U.S. near Hidalgo Point of Entry in southern Texas late Saturday night. “You need to start from zero to show that the situation costs.”
A Honduran, Javier, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that he plans to “work now with the help of God and give the best to my baby and wife.” He said he worked carpentry jobs in Guatemala and Mexico to fund his trip north to the U.S.
“I know how to do everything,” a woman from El Salvador said, adding that she expects to have more opportunities now that she’s in the U.S., wanting to seek asylum through the legal process while working to support herself.

Oh yeah right. This is BS.
You forgot Nevada, I live in CA. and everyday it is more and more like living in Mexico!!!
In Maine the majority of Somalians have remained on welfare after years of getting dropped here by the Catholic Charites criminal organization.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
maybe one day will take the initiative to get off welfare..............and run for congress
With an average IQ of central Americans less than 90 I see little hope of that.
Precisely why they should have started taxing The Church years ago.
The stupid gringo. Exactly
Yep. Covid superspreader.
By undercutting wages for American workers?
I can speak to that!
First, in any population you’ll get those who prefer to live off their neighbor. So, yes there is some %age of illegals who are criminals (other than border hopping) and plan to continue that here and/or live off the American taxpayer. Second, being here illegally was the wrong thing to do...period.
That said, I work around a large population of ‘mexicans’ and a very very much smaller number of asians. The remainder are Americans. What Ive observed is that by and large the ethnic groups are hard workers. Some work hard and do good work and others work hard and do marginal to poor work. Ive gotten to know some of the ‘mexicans’ b/c I work closely with them at times and/or we’re in close proximity to each other. By and large I like them. I very much admire their desire to work hard and make a way for themselves. Its a refreshing change from Americans their age (almost all the ‘mexicans’ are young). In fact my hats off to them for their work ethic and drive. It sure beats the whiny, over indulged, lazy and aimless next gen of Americans.
For many I very much wished they had come here legally. They’d make excellent citizens and good neighbors. Some need to just go back to where they came from. Which leads me to a why. Why are they here? Frankly its b/c they’ve been enticed by our own govt. Illegals KNOW they aren’t going home unless they want to. No one is tasked to hunt them down. They understand how this all works and willingly took the ‘risk’. If they do get assistance from the govt its b/c the govt signed them up for it in most cases vs asking for it! So, yes, they’re at fault for taking the bait but aren’t we also at fault for not holding our govt to the law? I say the bigger fault is with us.
As for taking jobs from Americans, well LOL to that. The majority of young american kids who start with us crash and burn in a few short months. They’re lazy and aimless. Perhaps the lazy could be whipped out of them eventually but the aimless seems there to stay. Their single asset is that they understand english. Whether they will do what they’re told is another matter.
So, those are my observations in no particular order. For those who would cast all illegals as lazy you need to get out more and see the world. Should they be here? Well, no but the fact is they are and aren’t going anywhere. I figure its prudent to work with them b/c the alternative is they live off the dole.
In other words they are going to enter a leftwing indoctrination program.
Best thing is to deny them any benefits at all, zip, nada, nothing. They’ll self deport when they find out they can’t get any freebies.
“You need to suffer for it. You need to sweat for it,”
WTF!!
He could have done THAT at home!
Some small number will but those who work won’t.
Anyway, the end of benefits presumes the govt would cut them off and that’s unlikely to happen any time soon.
Don’t give them any to start with. Once the camel’s nose is in the tent ...
Some 1/3 of Mexico’s annual GDP is cash (money orders) from US.
That’s the theory of it but the govt seems happy to sign them up. The Biden admin has opened the door wide and the supporting agencies came prepared with mountains of checks. Until you can get govt to abide by their own laws and rules nothing is going to change in a positive direction. As I said this wound is self inflicted.
Only the ignorant say things like that.
She hasn’t got a clue just like most of them. They are full of hope and promise and promises made by people like Catholic Charities and the State Department.
Their heads have been filled with propaganda and chit.
Welfare, food stamps, Medicare for insurance, section 8 housing, assistance with water and electric, then work under the table for cash. America, what a country!
“I wonder how many of the 58 percent of the white community wash dishes at a restaurant.”
None because they only hire illegals for those jobs. Same for fast food, landscaping and construction.
