The maximum pay rate for staffers will be higher than that of elected officials
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday announced a major pay boost for top House staff members that will allow them to make more money than elected members of Congress.
Pelosi, D-Calif., said the new maximum pay rate for staff will be $199,300, up 15% from the current cap of $173,900 annually.
The pay boost means that top staffers will be allowed to make more money than their bosses. The pay for a member of Congress has been $174,000 since 2009 with some variance for leadership positions.
...The new maximum salary announcement does not mean an automatic pay raise for all employees, just the flexibility for members of Congress to give their top employees more money than them.
But the House in July passed a legislative branch appropriations bill that would boost members' office allowances to $774 million in 2022, an increase of $134 million from the 2021 fiscal year. If the Senate signs off and the new spending takes effect, members of Congress would then have more money to divvy up ...

It’s the people’s money. This is out of control. We need a shake up from the Lord God Almighty. He is the Only One who can right a sinking ship.
Great. We are paying a lot more (and it’s not done rising) for food, gas, energy, building materials, etc., and now one of the chief authors of our misery wants to boost the pay of Congress staffers and take even more money from our wallets. This is in addition to the millions the Capitol fence and National Guard cost—all for nothing—and the billions SlowJoe&Ho are spending to keep the border fence FROM getting finished. She could drop dead just where she stands and you won’t see a tear from me.
I would think that working in Congress gives them prestige and perks as it is. They don’t need to be overpaid, too.

Yeah, but do they get a share of the bribes, graft and insider trading information that the electeds do????
In all fairness, graft, bribery and illegal revolving door payoffs more than make up any difference.

But members of Congress get BIG bucks from bribery, graft, speaking, books, insider investment, and the generous perks given to them.
Setting themselves up for another big pay raise. “How can we expect the representatives to work for anything less than the people they manage?”

That’s all our Big Gubamint is about anymore, massive amounts of wealth redistribution, essentially extorted and then spent on causes that are more waste and fraud than result oriented.
