The growth in the American population over the last decade was driven entirely by minority communities, according to new data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau, as the number of white Americans declined for the first time since the nation's founding.
Non-Hispanic whites make up just under 58 percent of the American population, the first time since the Census was first conducted that they have fallen under the 60 percent mark. By contrast, the 2000 Census showed non-Hispanic whites made up just over 69 percent of the population, and 63.7 percent in 2010.
Hispanic or Latino Americans have grown steadily to 62.1 million, or 18.7 percent of the population, up from 12.6 percent in 2000 and 16.4 percent in the 2010 count. Asian Americans grew faster than any other minority group in the last decade, to 24 million, up about 20 percent since 2010.
Counties with populations under 50,000 all lost population on average, according to the Census data. Counties with populations over 100,000 gained 9.1 percent, as more Americans flocked to metropolitan areas and their nearby suburbs.
Overall, 86.3 percent of Americans live in a metropolitan area, a city and its surroundings with populations greater than 50,000, up 2 percentage points since the 2000 survey. The share of Americans who live in rural areas that are not part of metropolitan areas dropped by 2.8 percentage points.

“The facts are that hispanic or whatever you want to call them are voting dem 60/40”...
Usted es incorrecto-no somos-you are incorrect-we are not-I live in a rural area with a lot of other rednecks who are Hispanic, Anglo, Black and even a few Asians-there were/are no Biden signs out here-and there are still Trump signs on most ranch gates-mine included-next to a Texas flag-any country people who vote democrat don’t stay here long...
I saw a major REp/Trump area in 2016 turn to about 50/50 in 2020. Trump flags were being ripped out of yards in the few areas that had them.
It’s gone blue from immigration from indians and mexicans.
A few rural places won’t make up the difference. Even many rural areas just can’t.
Except President Trump increased his Latino vote share in Texas and Florida despite all your efforts
Despite my efforts lol. Yer nuts.
Still making up funny, easily disproved anti Trump stories?
Look at the trends and maps my friend.
I have,
President Trump increased his share of the Latino and black votes e everywhere, apart from the hard core fraud centers of Atlanta, Detroit, Philadelphia and a few other totally sleazy corrupt, gangster ruled Dem big cities which managed to steal huge numbers of votes for Joe Dementia.
Going with a tiny increase from when you’re way behind is how we get a national California, which you seem hell bent (and race bent) to happen.
Texas is still primarily an agricultural state, even before energy production-we grow crops and keep livestock to produce food for ourselves and others-it gets trucked to the stores in the cities-even many of us living on small acreage produce food, and we own small businesses-so people “actually live” here-it isn’t uninhabited-small rural cities and towns are red, too-the few large cities are islands of blue garbage in a sea of red producers, and they are losing voters who are tired of the crime and homeless panhandling and crapping in front of their businesses...
Is that why Texas and Florida which are bigger than any other state outside California are still solidly red?
Calling Captain Obvious!
Sorry, the largest share of Texans lives in the large metro areas not the small towns.
Also, people tend to keep their politics when they move somewhere else.
Both leaning purple. I’d consider both those as safe as NM/AZ were, which are now solid blue vs mildly blue.
You really should examine politics and voting patterns more. Mexicans come in, change states like CA, NM, AZ to blue and are in middle of turning TX/FL blue.
Crazy people on this thread. Absolutely nuts.
Yup.
You and your delusional, deranged far left crazies
Yep, ones that think Mexcians will vote GOP and those that think most of Texas is rural.
Absolutely insane.
