The White House acknowledged Wednesday that President Joe Biden was not trying to increase domestic oil production to help lower gas prices in the United States.
During the White House daily briefing, Bloomberg reporter Josh Wingrove asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki whether Biden was considering ways to increase domestic oil production, after sending a public letter to OPEC nations to increase production of foreign oil.
“The point we have made in these communications is that we’re not making a supply question here — or we’re not posing a supply question domestically,” she said. “Obviously, OPEC has its own unique role on the global marketplace.”
Psaki argued that gas prices were higher than they were in 2020 but still around normal.
“Now, gas prices are still aligned with where they were back in 2018,” she said, adding that “they often go up in the summer; we’ve seen that trend over and over again.”
The price of gas has skyrocketed since prices dipped during the 2020 summer during the coronavirus pandemic.
New inflation numbers released on Wednesday showed the cost of gas up 41.8 percent from July 2020.

Well DUH! Why do that? To help out low and middle income folks? That might throw a monkey wrench in their plans.

1. Global Warming!
2. Decarbonize the economy!
3. Shut down oil exploration, recovery, and refining.
4. Oops, oil supply is down and prices are up. Unexpected!
5. Voters are hopping mad.
6. Ask our enemy OPEC to send us more oil.
7. Threaten oil companies with regulator action.
8. Send US troops to the middle east to protect the oil.
Brilliant. Just forking brilliant.

Of course he’s not. His goal is to bankrupt and destroy domestic drilling companies down to the suppliers that support them. This in my book is a national security threat and impeachable.

Amazing how people with limos don’t care that the price of gasoline is up. They’re free to celebrate the “new normal”, the rest of us are fed up.

Psaki argued that gas prices were higher than they were in 2020 but still around normal. Normal for democrat administrations. Enjoy these high prices, eventually we'll be back to scenes like this:

“they often go up in the summer; we’ve seen that trend over and over again.” We have. The question is, how have we reacted to this trend.
Based on a quick glance at this
Source Obama:
Elected Nov 2008: $2.28/gal
Peak May 2011: $4.01/gal (+76%)
Month prior to last election Oct 2016:$2.35/gal
Trump:
Elected Nov 2016: $2.34/gal
Peak May 2019: $2.98/gal (+27%)
Month prior to last election Oct 2020: $2.25/gal
Biden:
Elected Nov 2020: $2.20/gal
Peak Aug 2021: $3.27/gal (+49%)
Here's my uneducated interpretation. I assumed that while a president isn't technically in office, his election in November has at least some impact on gas prices from November forward as the election should have some impact on the speculative markets. So I found the average gasoline price as of November of their election and charted it out to the average gasoline price in October prior to their final election, while including the peak price within.
During Obama, a very high spike in May 2011 (+76% since elected) that remained on the high spiked end and bounced up and down until about December 2014 before coming down.
During Trump, gasoline prices generally rose steadily but moderately until a peak in May 2019 (+27% since elected) and then trended down month over month thereafter before bottoming out and generally staying there during COVID.
Biden sees nothing but an upward trend so far from November 2020 where he started at $2.20 and now sits on a peak of $3.27 (+49% since elected).
These are just spitballs here, but the way I see it is that all presidents have spikes. Some are just more well-contained than others presumably due to increased domestic production, reduction on reliance to foreign, strategic reserve management, etc.
Looking at the chart at the source, I'm seeing prices were high, and remained high until the tail end of Obama's presidency. They were generally steady under Trump's. And are climbing steadily under Biden's.
No argument that COVID tanked gas prices. But it's a mistake, in my opinion, to assume that they were ONLY low due to COVID. I don't think a president has complete control over prices, but I DO think he has some control over volatility. When comparing the three president's Trump wins for least volatile.
I hate twisting statistics to show my inherent bias. So if I'm not considering something or am wrong somewhere, let me know.

This clown, after killing the pipeline right after his inauguration, is now trying to save his bottom in the eyes of Americans with this futile gesture. He is such a buffoon that he does not see how stupid this is.

Psaki argued that gas prices were higher than they were in 2020 but still around normal.I very carefully record each gasoline purchase. Here's the results:
Year Avg. price
2019 2.182
2020 1.923
2021* 2.165
*Jan 1 through Aug 12
Looks like Psaki is either lying (likely) or doesn't know anything about gas prices.

Who needs cheaper energy, lower inflation, and good paying American jobs when Biden can outsource them to Russia?
