Poland pushes through new media law and angers the U.S.

Polish lawmakers have approved a contentious media law that countries like the United States have vehemently opposed.

The bill, which passed the lower chamber of the Polish Parliament on Wednesday, prevents firms from outside the European Economic Area, a group of 30 nations, from owning a majority stake in media companies based in the country. The law has yet to be ratified by the upper house of the Polish Parliament and signed by President Andrzej Duda.

As an example, the bill means that U.S. media giant Discovery might be forced to sell its stake in TVN, a Polish broadcaster.

“The United States is also deeply troubled by draft legislation passed today by the lower house of the Polish parliament that targets the most watched independent news station, which is also one of the largest U.S. investments in the country,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement on Wednesday.

“This draft legislation threatens media freedom and could undermine Poland’s strong investment climate,” Blinken also said.

Good for Poland, keep the Ministry of Propaganda out.

They should have gone further.

If I was Poland, I would have limited it to Polish companies.

And I think America should limit press to American companies.

If our corrupt, childish, immoral, and totally without intelligence current (mis)administration does not like the law, Poland is indeed doing the correct thing. After all, leftists s**t upon everything they touch

At this point, a prudent government will protect their people from the US government and its allies, which include China.

How can “the most watched independent news station” be independent if it is owned by Foreigners? Go Poland, now ban Twatter, Fakebook, and the rest.

Eastern Europe has the old historical meddling empire Russia on one side, and the new woke-ideologue USA meddling empire on the other.

How to protect oneself from both is their key issue.

Well I’m in the U.S. and I’m not angered at all by it.

Nope.
The law prevents far left US media companies like NBC, CBS, ABC, NYT, Facebook etc from taking over Polish media companies and then using left wing propaganda to steal elections for the left.
Good job Poland.

It’s not an issue. Soviet style media has little to no influence in Poland right now.

Canada has similar laws, and also requires a certain percentage of domestically-created content.

That's why all of the Canadian rock stations play Rush 24/7...

Sounds like the smart thing to do. Normally, if Blinken and Biden are for it, I’m “agin” it

Hungary and Poland are some of the few non-Leftist dominated European nations per the Tucker Carlson reporting last week.

"And I think America should limit press to American companies."

Good luck with that. U.S. media corporations get too much money from foreign countries, like China, to ever allow that to happen. And too many Republicans are on the dole as well, to back a law like that.

For such a small nation, Canada actually has some really good music coming out of it.

LOL, though, 88.7 FM was Canadian Rock/alternative for 30 years, just recently went country...
