One I used to wear - because it was always OK to wear them in appropriate settings:

They're really popular in the Navy while we are deployed, and largely out of the public eye. People wear them on their foul weather jackets, which aren't really an official uniform item but rather gear that the command purchases. I saw dozens upon dozens of different morale patches last deployment. Sailors get them made up and often sell or trade them to each other. Many of these were very clever and funny. Lots of custom T-shirts as well that were made up and we could wear in the hangar bay when it's hot and we're allowed to take off our flight deck jerseys (only in the 5th Fleet AOR though).

Once we're back home, visible to the public, and wearing only official uniform items (no foul weather jackets), the morale patches are gone. They're very much a "what happens at sea, stays at sea" kinda thing.

I only did one tour in the Wild Weasels, but I’m proud of those years!

I first saw this long after my time...

I seriously double if Uncle Sam's Misguided Children would have allowed me to wear one on my jungle utilities....

It would have made a great "Sniper Check", though!

That’s one more than I did. Thank you for you service and sacrifice.

......this is so shameful....I simply cannot believe the United States Air Force that I so proudly served in and retired from has sunk to this low level...I remember our senior sergeants always checking us for adhereance to what was then (I believe) Air Force Regulation 35-10...now this.....I’m sure the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army Air Force is doing the same thing.....

Mostly noise level stuff but morale patches almost assuredly will include gay pride and BLM crap among other things.

Up north, in Montana and North Dakota, it could be a real bitch on a -30F day to have some lifer tell you to get your hands out of your pockets. Even with gloves and inserts, you fingers feel like they would break off inside of five minutes.

I hope they don't mean you can diddy bop with da boyz hanging' out with your hands in your low riders and your hat on backwards.

"Back in the day" I was walking with someone from the dorm (personally always called them barracks) at Lackland. The person I was walking with looked around and decided to put his hands in his pockets.

Bam - a TI came out of nowhere and screamed to my friend to get out his 341. The swearing and yelling was not worth him putting his hands in his pockets! LOL

I got one pulled a week before we finished up, but the TI never filled it out. He was just messin’ with people that week.

I knew a female maintenance officer (O-3) for one of the fighter squadrons on base. On Friday’s after work at the O-Club her name patch would say, “Bed, Hellen”.

I was married, still am, but had no doubt the inference of the name tag was quite true.

My cousin, Sgt. Joe Shahum was a tunnel rat in Nam ‘69.

He’s about 5’ 5” tall and weights about 140 lbs.

He’s 76, but I wouldn’t fu@k with him.

5.56mm

We had one guy in our Flight bring GOLF CLUBS! Man, when things were declared during in processing, that guy got hammered. Someone did declare and hand over a joint - did not get canned and actually did well in basic.

The Air Force certainly has changed. Some for the better, some not so much. This photo dates back to 1967 ~ 1968. When my father was at Phan Rang.
