After a historic year of homicides in the state of Wisconsin, state legislators are now proposing policies that are dangerous to youth, families, and our communities.
In 2019 alone, there was one firearm related death every 15 hours in the state of Wisconsin δΈ€ amounting to more than 600 deaths. To make matters worse, violent crime continued to rise in 2021. Both urban and rural communities have been impacted; 70% of the firearm-related deaths were caused by suicide.
Despite the violence, Republican lawmakers are circulating legislation that aims to lower the age to conceal and carry a firearm to 18 and allow firearms to be locked in vehicles on school grounds.
Researchers and violence prevention advocates believe this legislation threatens to exacerbate the already increasing rates of violence in the state.

Gee, I wonder if they can cite any evidence to support this hypothesis. Because I’m sure states have eased restrictions on CCWs before. So, where are all the stories of “blood in the streets”, etc? I.e. that would make this story justified, as opposed to mere fearmongering and gaslighting.

Make the driving age, the drinking age, and the gun age all the same. Should help drum up business for the local news stations.

I grew up in Wisconsin. Back in the Seventies, the age to deer hunt was 12, I believe at 15 you did not need an adult hunter with you. During gun season at my High School, about 50 miles east of Milwaukee, it was not uncommon for teenagers to have shotguns in the trunk. They would change into Red gear (not blaze orange back then) in the parking lot drive five to ten miles out of town and hunt on one of the local farms. No body was ever shot, no student was stupid enough to have a loaded shotgun in the car to begin with. We respected guns because we were raised with them. Young people experience shooting on video games, that does not teach respect for guns, it teaches them power comes from the gun.

They have said that about every Constitutional carry initiative, every campus carry initiative. Every time, proven wrong.

If you are considered old enough vote and to join the military you should be considered old enough to drink, smoke, buy a gun, etc. You are an adult and should be allowed all the privileges of being one. And we should be raising our children to be ready to be adults at that age. Teenagers are not little children, they are grown ups in training.

70% of the firearm-related deaths were caused by suicide. Overall suicide rates are not affected by gun ownership.
The method of suicide chosen may be affected by the level of gun ownership, but the overall level of suicide is not.

The Rats want people to believe that they're convinced that gun laws make everyone safer. Of course we knowand *they* know, that that's just so much horsecr@p. Gun laws are obeyed only by those who have never had any intention to use a firearm in a criminal fashion in the first place.
Criminals,OTOH,don't give a rat's hindquarters about gun laws...any more than they give a rat's hindquarters about murder laws...rape laws...robbery laws...drug laws...

BLOOD IN THE STREETS!
EVERY MINOR INTERACTION WILL BECOME A SHOOT OUT!
TODDLERS WITH UZIS! MOWING DOWN PRESCHOOLS!
we’ve heard it all before..And it did not happen.

And allowing loud hip hop music on school grounds may make violence worse. Etc, etc. But allowing CRC crap on school grounds WILL make violence worse. I really hope we have plans for the media when we finally come to blows over this. Very special plans. Very very special plans. These folks deserve treatments not even dreamed up yet. Not kidding.

420 firearm deaths were from suicide.
firearms are not the problem...
