Manchin sends warning shot over 'serious concerns' about $3.5T spending plan

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is sending a warning shot to President Biden and congressional leaders, saying he has "serious concerns" about spending $3.5 trillion on a massive package that Democrats want to pass later this year.

Manchin said in a statement early Wednesday that he has "serious concerns about the grave consequences ... if Congress decides to spend another $3.5 trillion."

“Given the current state of the economic recovery, it is simply irresponsible to continue spending at levels more suited to respond to a Great Depression or Great Recession — not an economy that is on the verge of overheating," Manchin said.

The sooner we go over the cliff, the better

Agreed.

My disappointment now is that it wasn't 10x at $35T.

And, pass the thing... looking forward to $100T bills.

The private non-reserve non-federal FED needs to crash and crater.

No longer worried about our kids and grandkids paying the debt. Not a plug nickle will be paid to the principal. Never.

His wife was appointed to a cushy well paid sinecure job by Biden, so Manchin is sucking in for the full catastrophe. He’ll stay bought.

Manchin is just holding out for money, bet on it, they will meet his price.

Of course they will. Dems never break ranks when it matters.

Where are all the House Dems that ran on being moderates? (Connor Lamb -- you liar!). Even with the tiniest House majority in 100 years, Nancy gets perfect obedience and can pass anything she wants.

Manchin just playing “public relations” and trying to manage his image with everyone.

It's all fake like WWE. Manchin always plays the part of an "independent" democrat, but every time he caves and always votes along the party line.

I think yesterday was some kind of a procedural matter rather than the actual vote on the bill

Perhaps he voted for it before he didn’t vote for it

As always, this faithful yellow dog (no offense to the magnificent canine) will bend over and do what Chuck says like he always has—hard to believe the great people of West Virginia continue to fall for this guy's shtick. Then again they keep a 'former' grand kleegle in power for over half a century.

Wishy washy Joe. This guy is a bait and switch master. He’s caved so much... Name three bills where he threatened like this and then voted no.

Whasamatter Joe? Isn’t a billion for your wife enough?

Hi bert; I hope you are good.

I believe you are correct. A person has to drill down deep to discover the $3.5 Trillion matter was a resolution. Of course all revenue bills must begin in the House of Representatives. After the House cuts the $3.5 down, it will return to the Senate for a 50% vote on reconciliation. The Fall should be quite entertaining leading up to the elections next year. I would expect more than a few Democrats in the House to resist both the Infrastructure bill and the $3.5 Trillion resolution. I hope there aren’t enough Republicans offset the .dems that vote no.

The national debt is NEVER getting paid.

Not even a penny of it. But the interest MUST be paid every single year. When rates shoot up due to the roaring inflation down the road, interest on the debt will take up most of the annual federal budget, and then the party will definitely be over. The only bright side if severe hyperinflation hits is that the debt will be in constant dollars, so $30 trillion will actually not be that big of a deal. But nobody will care with the general misery that will abound.

Another scenario is a deflationary depression if they continue to lock down business and commerce due to the latest 'variant'. But they can keep printing 'stimulus' money to keep the economy on life support, leading to a further decline in the dollar and more inflation. An infinite loop.

Manchin either is a liar and a fool, or just a fool. He can choose. But one thing will be certain, the end of his Senate career.

“Didn’t this idiot vote for it yesterday and now he bitches about it? “

Senator Joe Manchin is no idiot and he’s no commie.

Manchin just voted to stop CRT, a Tom Cotton budget amendment.

Maybe don’t attack the guy who has a “D” by his name but is doing more good for American than many among the GOPe.

Don't go overboard on Manchin !

He's trying to position him to run for Prez as a Rat in 2024. Doing it via the Clinton triangulation ploy - the moderate answer between the GOP & Rat extremes. If that fails which I think it will. He's positioning himself to be the next Byrd. That to may fail, people here in WV are getting a little tired of him, but it has a better chance of success then being Prez. He's aided by the fact that the WV state GOP can't nominate\find a competent candidate to oppose him. (Also the idea of another Byrd sells here - the Byrd era made many here addicted to Government Cheese!)
