For many people who contract mild, moderate, or severe COVID-19, the disease's effects don't disappear when the infection fades. A systematic review and meta-analysis published Monday to the journal Scientific Reports found that 80% of cases result in at least one long-term symptom.
The authors of the report scoured more than 18,000 publications, seeking studies assessing the long-term effects of COVID-19 with at least 100 subjects. They found fifteen studies, which collectively followed 47,910 patients for as long as 110 days post-infection. They then pooled the data to discern the prevalence of chronic side effects.
"The five most common symptoms were fatigue (58%), headache (44%), attention disorder (27%), hair loss (25%), and dyspnea [difficult breathing] (24%)," the reviewers reported.
In total, they turned up 55 potential long-term symptoms. Other notable chronic effects included loss of taste (reported in 23% of cases), loss of smell (21%), cough (19%), sweating (17%), and hearing loss (15%).

Unfortunately, none of the studies included in the review were stratified by disease severity, so we don't know for sure if worse disease exacerbates long-term symptoms, though it seems likely.
"The results assessed in the present study are in line with the current scientific knowledge on other coronaviruses, such as those producing SARS and MERS," the authors wrote. "For example, studies on SARS survivors have shown lung abnormalities months after infection."
The authors also noted that the effects of long-term COVID-19 partly resemble those of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), a nebulous, controversial diagnosis that currently lacks an established cause. CFS sufferers are plagued by "severe incapacitating fatigue, pain, neurocognitive disability, compromised sleep... and worsening of global symptoms following minor increases in physical and/or cognitive activity," the reviewers described….
…"Given that COVID-19 is a new disease, it is impossible to determine how long these effects will last,"…

You’ve hit the nail square on the head facilitated by the deep staters here in our govt - reps and dems - faux, nobama, hitlery, the big five high tech, msm and on and on - don’t forget not only to kill our country but they had to first commit treason and steal the 2020 election and kill TRUMP! Hang ‘em!

Thanks for this info.
could these effects also be attributed to being on a ventilator for long term? (I have no idea how many days or weeks that would be.) At the very least perhaps being on a ventilator would be partially responsible for the effects.
*****************************************************************************
That’s a good question. My Dad had by pass surgery, and another time he was on a ventilator. With the recovery from surgery they told me they were taking him off the machine faster than usual, due to his lung condition-(his lungs had some fibrosis).
The other time he was in ICU on a ventilator, IIRC, I believe that my Doctor told me that beyond a certain point, lung damage was a concern. Might have been 2-3 weeks limit.
Thanks for the lengthy breakdown of things good. The only supplement in the article I don’t take is NAC. Never heard of it till now. I’ll look it up.
It’s about degrees. For example, fatigue. Sounds vague, right? How about the British Olympics team rower who can’t physically sustain a workout for more than a few minutes in a day months after having COVID? Or the professional soccer player who spent all last summer unable to run down the soccer field? This isn’t fatigue as in “I feel a little sleepy”, this is fatigue as in world-class athlete can’t perform at even Average Joe levels anymore.
The attention disorder is particularly frightening. I’ve heard this described as “brain fog” and cognition tests have measured significant loss of IQ in some people. As in a professional accountant who can no longer balance their checkbook.
We were in Panama City for a church camp a couple weeks ago and dozens of adults and students came down with the death virus the day after we got back.
What does a dewormer do?
I didn’t take a look at the list, but apparently just hearing about it also causes extreme stupidity in approximately 50% of the population. Or perhaps it just reveals what’s already there.
Additionally, it also causes dictatorial tendencies among about 70% of politicians and 90% of government bureaucrats. Or perhaps it just reveals what’s already there.
Just a quick story how I found out about NAC. About twenty-one years ago when the H-1 N-1 flu made its rounds one doctor on Free Republic suggested NAC instead of a shot, and in so many words stated that if you take NAC you don’t need a shot. He was right on and ever since I have included it in my regime of vitamins/nutrients. And it has been working like a charm. There are a lot of helpful things out there, unfortunately most of the public doesn’t know about them. Stay healthy and well my friend.......
How do you know it was the “Death Virus”? The CDC just admitted a couple of weeks ago the testing they approved in February of 2020 is incapable of distinguishing between Influenza and the Wuhan Virus. Influenza kills a great many people across the world every single year. It makes a great many others very ill.
Have you seen the stats since the Wuhan Virus “epidemic”? The historical numbers of reported Influenza Virus have Plummeted to low levels unheard of at the same time the reported Wuhan Virus reporting has Skyrocketed.
There’s one curious thing involved here. Hospitals and Clinics that report Covid-19 get Federal Dollars. There are NO Federal Dollars for reporting Influenza. Hmmm. Curious.
Phase 1 and 2 of Pfizer’s study had 99.1% of the control group not getting COVID-19.
The vaccine was not responsible for those.
It’s likely that 99% of both the vaccinated and Placebo legs in the trials were not even exposed to COVID-19. You CLEARLY don’t have the foggiest idea of how medical trials are conducted and results analyzed. And I’m not going to take time in a futile attempt to educate you.
You do not know of that which you speak.
Do you still take ivermectin? I am wondering if that would help with after effects.
*******************************************************************************
Dr. Malone had the RONA and he was having lingering symptoms. He had a tweet this week that he had started taking Ivermectin, and it was working to help him.
Correction, twenty-one years should have been eleven years.
Keep posting this.. I noticed none of the statistic on either side include the number of people w God given, natural, multi antigenic immunity.
Vitamin D 1500 IU - My wife was diagnosed with low vitamin D levels several years and has been taking a D supplement for several years. She gets tested regularly to monitor the D level. I think it is not only to make sure she is taking enough but also not taking too much.
I spent many hours a day outside and always figured I was getting plenty of D. I have to wonder what value extra D would provide someone like me, perhaps during the winter months it would be beneficial but not sure during spring-fall.
In my wife’s case, the D blood test is specific and I do not think a “regular” blood test provides D level. So how would you ever know if you are getting too much until a problem arises?
4,000 IUs a day is the current Upper Tolerable Limit. It used to be 10,000 IUs.
That level is set to serve as a guideline. Going above that amount may start to cause health problems for some.
Well, she has two different tests that were “positive.” The main difference that I would suggest is that she lost her taste and smell. I have never heard of this happening with the flu. She also did not have the high fever that is common with the flu.
