One awful bill, one terrible bill: Hope that Dems’ double-dealing dooms them both
NY Post ^ | August 9, 2021 | Post Editorial Board

Posted on 08/09/2021 9:23:35 PM PDT by BenLurkin

The $1 trillion “infrastructure” plan poised to pass the Senate is a bad bill; the only possible excuse its Republican backers have is the claim that it may help stop a truly terrible one — the $3.5 trillion social-spendapalooza Democrats will introduce next.

Contra the hype, the 2,700-page “bad” bill won’t pay for itself, and only a tenth of its spending ($110 billion) is for roads, bridges and other major infrastructure projects....

Meanwhile, the bill drops plenty on Dem wish-list projects: $65 billion to expand broadband Internet access, including a new federal entitlement for low-income households, $73 billion for clean-energy transmission and $7.5 billion for an electric-vehicle-charging network.

Once the Senate passes this mess...it will then take up the $3.5 trillion package — a horror aiming to turn America into the welfare state of Bernie Sanders’ dreams. It would hike taxes on business and the wealthy to create multiple new entitlements: universal preschool, free community college, paid family and medical leave. It would expand Medicare benefits while reducing the program’s eligibility age, dump more cash on “green energy” subsidies — and even offer immigrants green cards...

Mitch McConnell is backing the infrastructure bill, with the calculation that it will give a win to Dem moderates like Joe Manchin (D-WVa.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and encourage them to hold the line against the bigger bill. Schumer plans to ram through the larger package using reconciliation and can’t afford to lose one Democrat vote. But that’s a huge risk.

the only possible excuse its Republican backers have is the claim that it may help stop a truly terrible one ......

Laughable sentence.

Republican backers know they’re going to get paid, that’s why they’re backing it. Back to the old gravy train that President Donald Trump shut down.

He was asking for a real infrastructure bill, that would actually deal with infrastructure, not handouts to the unions and other special interests. And with him being charge, I’m betting there would have been accountability mechanisms and benchmarks in place to ensure the work got done. Not so much anymore. More roadwork on highways that never seems to end. Folks all over the country know what that’s like.

This a taxpayer funded lottery for the Republicans and Democrats.

That’s BS.

Every Republican in DC KNEW once they approved the $1 trillion bill, the 3.5 was on greased skids and there was NOTHING the GOP could do to stop it.

The Post Editorial Board is shilling for the GOPe again.

After both pass and are signed, the Post is likely to wax fondly of the valiant fight the GOP put up.

All they had to do was filibuster the first bill.

Sooner or later, probably sooner than later, it will doom[destroy] the Country. But that is what they are after. {Their aim and goal} Enjoy the ride. I understand the end is not now. But I believe that we can see it from where we are. Enjoy!

.
Lindsey Graham went on Chris Wallace’s show, what a month ago, and said, that my message is, if Joe wants a Trillion / 1.2 T Infrastructure agreement, it’s there for the taking. I want to work with my friends across the aisle.

We’re screwed. Grandkids are screwed.

They want to advance Joe’s entire agenda, but don’t want to get caught doing it.

So, to sway Republican Voter opinion, they say the new line in the sand is the Debt Limit.

However, they know the Dems can pass it alone. Conveniently, the Agenda rolls onward and will financially crush us.

“ Mitch McConnell is backing the infrastructure bill, ”

As are our worthless Idaho senators, Risch and Crapo. The're toast, as if it matters.

a big piece of the $3.5 trillion package is the lowering of the starting age of medicare from 65 to 60.

Didn’t people in this age group vote for Trump overwhelmingly? It seems odd to me for Democrats to focus on this age group.

Lowering g the age for medicare is helping their BIG corporate donors, it lets them off the hook for medical insurance for workers has NOTHING to do with doing it for the people!!!
