A Washington state inmate was sentenced to another 25 years in prison for murdering his cellmate — a convicted child sex offender who raped his sister.
Shane Goldsby, 26, was sentenced this week after he beat to death his 70-year-old cellmate Robert Munger in June 2020.
Munger was reportedly serving a 43-year prison sentence for his child sex crimes.
Goldsby said he snapped after Munger began teasing him with details about the rape, which later proved true, according to KHQ.
“I had so much stuff going on in my head,” he told the outlet. “I wasn’t stable at that point. I wasn’t. I was getting to that point, because (Munger) kept wanting to give me details about what happened, what he did – about the photos and the videos of him doing this stuff. It was building up.”
He told the outlet he had requested a new cellmate from the Washington Department of Corrections, which has a policy preventing such prison living arrangements. The DOC told KHQ that screeners had no knowledge about the two’s connection when they were placed together, following an internal investigation.
According to court documents, Goldsby attacked Munger from behind in the prison’s communal area and hit him in the face 14 times, then stomped on his head at least four times before walking away.
Goldsby apologized to Munger’s family in an emotional statement on Tuesday that was completed by his attorney, KHQ reported.

Sounds like a plan.
Release him for time served.
Deserves a medal, and as suggested—release for time served.
Somewhere in all that is a serious miscarriage of justice. The full force of the law was applied only to Goldsby. No responsible official on earth who would have put up with a rapist heckling the brother of his victim, except in that prison administration. And much less the brother.
Munger delivered sublime justice. NOT guilty!
Munger WAS delivered sublime justice. NOT guilty!
I wonder if Goldsby asked for a jury trial. Because I can’t imagine that any jury would have convicted him.
*When Goldsby told corrections that his cellmate was his sister’s rapist, why didn’t they immediately move him?*
You mean that wasn’t part of the ‘plan’?
Taking out the trash. No big deal. Or stepping on a cockroach.
Agreed. With the taunting, I find it hard to blame Goldsby. If it is true that he told officials about his cellmate as he says he did, there should be serious consequences.
Amen. And I’m almost sure he’s happy about it.
Go to Youtube channels for ex-cons. They all said the SAME THING: The ONE CRIMINAL everyone hates there over terrorists, bank robbers, murderers, embezzlers ETC. are CHILD MOLESTERS/RAPISTS. They get shanked in prison asap once word gets and everyone knows each other’s file jackets.
I agree. They won't, though. They are government employees.
One child predator taking out a rapist...SO?
Sounds like the jail was in on it. What’s the odds they would be cell mates?
Goldsby should have been smart and made it look like an Epstein.
Lord, I wish I could have been the jury foreman for this case. The article made me sick and I didn’t read enough to learn if there was a jury trial or not. I certainly would have demanded one and a new defense attorney.
It sounds like prison authorities intentionally put Them together hoping Goldsby would kill Munger and they got the outcome they wanted.
“I wonder if Goldsby asked for a jury trial. Because I can’t imagine that any jury would have convicted him.”
I suspect that anyone on a jury wouldn’t have been told about the history, which is why jurors should always research a case that they’re on (regardless of what the judge says). The simple question for the jury is whether Goldsby killed the guy or not, which he was obviously guilty of.
Reading comprehension is not your strong point is it? Goldsby was in prison for stealing a police car and injuring a cop during the car chase.
I say give him an extra serving of meatloaf for dinner.
