Once you get past all the anti-Trump fuming at the start, it gets interesting about Truman's finances in and out of office.

4 years at 400000 per year donated by President Trump. It will take awhile for his Presidential pension to make up for that.

I was once a fan of Harry Truman. But once I began my journey into the communist infiltration of this country beginning in the Thirties until it began to decline in the Fifties when HUAC and then Joseph McCarthy made it disreputable to be affiliated with Communists, the actions of Harry Truman appalled me.

At a time when he should have been a champion of this country and protecting its interests, he was far, FAR more interested in protecting the Democrat Party.

His actions in impeding, obstructing, and doing everything he could to block the McCarthy investigations were disgusting.

He is no hero of mine, even divorced from his finances.

When I first heard that Truman and Eisenhower hated each other, I wondered who the bad guy was.

How odd. Someone in the press seems to think Truman was a Republican…

What kind of article is this?

Grifting is only for *certain people?*

Not that I endorse grifting of any kind.

“Trump will get millions in post-presidential benefits...”

As do Obama, Clinton, Gore, Bush, Carter

Net Worth:

Obama - $40 million
Clinton - $75 million
Bush - $39 million
Carter - $8 million
Kerry & wife - $250 million
Biden - $9 million
Gore - $300 million
McCain & wife- $200 million

Unlike the Obama’s receiving graft and payouts from those they did favors for.

, the author proves two points:

1. Truman was rich when he died and at least the majority of that money came from book contracts (one worth $600,000).

2. Truman had at least $50,000 when he left the presidency, and he got it from an untaxed expense account.

The author also asserts that Truman was rich when he left office but he doesn’t show that Truman had anything other than the $50,000. Does $50,000 alone make your rich back then?

The author also suspiciously doesn’t describe the terms of what he calls the expense account despite saying that the terms were voted by congress and therefore would be public. Was the expense account (that’s the authors name for it) like a per dime where you keep what you don’t spend? Or like a corporate expense account where you need to show receipts to get reimbursed? That would be directly relevant to the implication that Truman stole the money but the author leaves it out. Suspicios

A bipartisan measure paring back the benefits passed both houses of Congress in 2016 but was vetoed by Barack Obama, who asserted that it would interfere with contractual arrangements

Excepting reasonable Secret Service protection, eliminate all the post-Presidential benefits for ALL OF THEM. The original concept was that with ample pensions and expenses, they would participate in useful deeds, like attending funerals of foreign heads of state, offer sage advice, etc. — thus keeping them from selling themselves and their influence like whores. But they are selling themselves.

How many millions have the Clintons grifted out of Bill’s Presidency and Hillary’s crony jobs? Add the Clinton Foundation (aka the Campaign to Elect Hillary and Grift the World). Add Chelsea Clinton’s fake career on corporate boards — I’m sure she provides lots of business wisdom. Why isn’t the author interested in that and Biden family graft?

Yet, only the thought that Trump might get a nickel concerns the author. Trump who didn’t even accept his salary as President. Trump who has lost probably hundreds of millions due to partisan depredations and interference in his business affairs.

No doubt Truman was a grifter too — he was a Democrat so tapping the public till has to be assumed.

With all of the low income folks that come into government and congress and leave rich, we’re going to get spun up about Trump?

The media have absolutely no shame. What a disgusting cesspool…

$500,000 a year (in today’s dollars) for 7 years does not get you into the top 1%. Top 10%, yes but not that next level.

if the authors purpose is to attack government largesse, he should go after Congressional pensions. But that was not his purpose, it was specifically to go after Trump.

I did not finish the hit piece, so if he does please correct me.

Politicians are crooks? Who knew?

I recall reading the biography when it came out in 1992. I knew little of Truman. When you understand that he was part of the “machine” in MO…in normal parlance you would call him a hack.

Los Angeles Times is at it again, pinning their own bad morals to Republicans.

TRUMAN WAS A DEMOCRAT, JUST LIKE ALL THE KKK members that served in Congress.

Campos claims that Truman was actually wealthy, most by using a tax-free account available to him as President. Whatever.

The man still supported his family as a farmer, then as an Army Captain in WWI, tried to start a clothing business, which failed. He also refused to serve on corporate boards and did not give speeches for money.

Just curious if Campos will investigate both the Obamas and Clintons - politicians who never held a “real job” in their entire lives, both who are worth $$ hundreds of millions.
