US business pushes Biden for a China trade deal

NEW YORK – Never before in US political history has the whole of the American business community—more than thirty major business organizations—spoke with one voice as it did in an August 5 appeal to the Biden administration to eliminate tariffs on imports from China.

No entities in American politics are timider than business lobbies, most of whose work involves quiet lobbying for administrative relief and legislative tweaks. Such a high-profile intervention suggests that the business organizations believe that a deal is already underway.

A deal is likely because inflation could poison the Democratic Party’s chances at 2022 mid-term elections and return control of the US Congress to the Republicans. Cutting tariffs is the quickest way to reduce inflation. Beyond the arithmetic of electoral politics, a consensus is emerging that the technology sanctions that Trump imposed on China have failed and may even have backfired.

More than 30 business groups including the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Roundtable, the Semiconductor Industry Association, as well as retailer, farm and manufacturing representatives asked Biden to cut tariffs and restart trade talks with China.

The letter stated: “A worker-centered trade agenda should account for the costs that US and Chinese tariffs impose on Americans here and at home and remove tariffs that harm U.S. interests.”

Last month, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told the New York Times that tariffs “hurt American consumers.” Since then-president Donald Trump imposed a 20% tariff on roughly half the goods America buys from China, the Treasury has collected about $100 billion in fees. Most of that was paid by US consumers. (continues at link)

I wonder how much the Chinese communists paid the author to write this article.

30 corporate organizations that hate the idea of American Manufacturing.

These leaches can make more money brokering sales than actually building something here.

Only until those companies make some well-placed campaign donations. Then nothing could be easier.

They are not US businesses, they are multinational corporations and their CEOs, Board of Directors, and upper management don't give a shit about America so it is time to return the favor. A corporation's only function is to make profit and not get looted by governments and they get into politics for only those two reasons, they don't have much concern for the individual or the nations they do business in. This behavior is nothing but corporate fascism on a global scale.

If war between America and China does occur you can bet that the giant multinational corporations like Google, Apple, Siemens, Mitsubishi, and others will sell to both sides.

‘Since then-president Donald Trump imposed a 20% tariff on roughly half the goods America buys from China, the Treasury has collected about $100 billion in fees. Most of that was paid by US consumers’

Most was paid by the CCP who devalued their currency & subsidized their manufacturing base to offset the tariffs.

Every dollar in tariffs is a dollar more reason to re-industrialize the American heartland & increase manufacturing & middle class lifestyles in America.

We should eliminate all income taxes & support the government through tariffs. That would bring a massive boom to the US economy & see millions of jobs & trillions of dollars brought to the USA.

Tariffs are a type of voluntary usage tax. Don’t want to pay them? Buy American!

Not a big fan of taxes but tariffs are the least offensive kind simply because it’s voluntary. You could just not buy imported products if you didn’t want to pay the tax

In 1939-40, the FDR put embargoes on selling oil, scrap-steel and much else to Imperial Japan. The reason was Japan’s increasing antagonism towards the USofA and Colonial Europeans like Britain & France PLUS Japans invasion into China. Especially horrifying was the slow coming reports of the atrocities committed by Japanese troops in their conquest of the then Chinese Capital of Nanking (Nanjing) in 1937. Postwar estimates put the civilian death toll at 200k in spite of the destruction of Japanese records at wars end. Not counted in that toll were the rapes and other brutalities over that 6 week period.

Can we see the analog and contrasts to this today and in this business plea for more open trade? China’s cultural (at least) genocide of the Uyghur & Tibetan ethnics. China’s aggression in the South China Seas and towards free navigation in international waters. China’s rapacious business practices with stock market and currency manipulation.

Yet, what do we have from this Craptilist 30 as opposed to the Great Depression starved USofA Business counterparts at FDR’s embargo? Yes there were protests in 1939 but it was more for permission to complete contracts and scheduled ships at sea. Today it appears to be the plea that their wallets will be emptier unless the Biden Administration frees up trade! We already have the plea from virtuous Nike that China is such a large market that they must suppress any criticism of such internal affairs!

My answer to these pultroon cravens? A pox upon you and I’m boycotting your products!

No nations ever offshored, imported and retailed into prosperity.

On factory closing down and devastating a community to its core is a tragedy. 55,000 is a statistic.

So what? That is the whole point. This is how "Made in The USA" becomes the other, most viable and best option.

How many of these top maggot business leaders have rural retreats for when the shyte hits the fan? Some top tech guys already have houses and properties in New Zealand if it gets really bad. Top business leaders want to pile up more millions via the China trade as this sends the US down the tubes. How dependant is our hi-tech military on Chinese components? Because the Chinks-Commies will cut us off in a flash.

These maggots worth many millions and maybe a billion or more care only about themselves and their families. They will tell you this in a candid moment. They have no use for and despise average Americans. They have no use for America except to make millions/billions selling us out to the Chinese and immigrants via open borders.
